I have equipped a bow on my fighter, but I don't know how to use it? when I go to use it I just get the parry ability and use doesn't work. I have a skill of 10 in bows right now.

You'll need to equip arrows, too. Different arrows have different stats, so you'll want to use an Identify spell to determine which ones are the best. Good arrows tend to be fairly rare in 6+7, so if you find a merchant who sells them, you'll usually want to buy at least a couple hundred.

DOH! I just realized I bought a quarrel and have no real idea what that is...:) Thought it was a quiver...:/ I can read....I think....:)

Ah, yes. Quarrels and bolts go with crossbows, but their icons look pretty similar so it's easy to get them confused. Most of the arrows actually have "arrow" in their name, though, which helps.

Yeah, I am just an idiot...:) Thanks for all the help.

I can remember my first game when I couldn’t understand why the locked chest kept exploding in my face until someone told me about inspecting it... Don’t think you are the only one.

Bit off topic;
Both bows and crossbows use/ build the same skill.
Generally speaking you are better off putting points into range attack and letting the bow skill grow on its own from usage... bows or crossbows will mostly depend on your stats.

Stats for range fighting:

Senses: this is the best one as it opens up the eagle eye skill and unlocking it will pay well over the course of the game.

Dexterity: is the other stat that most effects range but the bonus skill is better armour... still nice to have but eagle eye is better.

Speed: affects every skill in the game but as long as you have at least 50 and are not encumbered then it can be safely ignored... still worth putting up a haste if you have it available.

Strength: does nothing for crossbows but will add an extra ½ damage to most bows.

Vitality / Piety: adds stamina... a character with doubleshot will burn through stamina twice as fast as a character with a bow.

Gadgeteers’ can put two light crossbows together for a doubleshot which as the name suggests will fire twice every round... about level 13 they can add another light crossbow for 3 total.

Strength and Vitality add to your carry capacity... an overloaded party is dead meat.
