I wanted to start this thread earlier, but now after solid playtime and experience it will be better.
The game acts really strange in combat.

1. My characters sometimes attack enemy and after they hit (or miss/whatever) the game says in combat log that he/she continues attacking, but in fact he/she doesn't.

2. When changing target (automatically or manually), characters keep attacking an old target till end of the round. Usually this happens when the target changes during combat round, when my group cannot see certain target and switch to the closest one, but still trying to hit abandoned target.

3. Today I attacked big group of Rapax soldiers (~40) and after 30 minutes when I was close to the end of batttle, I realised that there are 5 Rapax soldiers around me, but the game "saw" only 4 of them, while they all were clearly visible and close to my position. Attacking the 5th "missing" soldier caused game crash. I think you can imagine how angry I was after that long and boring fight I lost due to this. What's more, this bug happens quite often, but sometimes the game recognize the enemy in few combat rounds.

I have been playing W8 many times since 2001 release, also in different versions and languages (EN and czech), but none of problems stated above appeared.

What are your experiences with GoG W8 version?

I have not experienced any of these issues. If you have installed any mods or unofficial patches then it is likely that something is causing a conflict or fault. If not then you probably have a corrupt installation and/or savegame.

No mods, no saves from other versions of game, I started with my own party.
1. : this could happen if the stamina loss for the last attack has brought the character below the limit which allows for an additional attack

2.: from experience in >100 completed wiz8 runs, this unfortunately appears normal for round based combats.
i think its even worse that the characters dont switch to another target
as soon as their actual target is disabled by a spell or side effect, i.e. sleeping, ko, paralyzed.

3.: the 5th rapax could belong to another group,
sometimes an enemy group "disppaears" from the list that you can see on top of your screen,
e.g. because the group is disabled/has no LOS to party for 3 combat rounds,
but its very rare that the game crashes if the "lost" group must be added to the list again,
usually happens only if a part of that group has much distance to the other,
which may indicate an issue of the W8 pathfinding AI,
uphold by several crashes ithat i had during playtests, but in that case the exe gave me a "too many path nodes" message on crash

However, a crash after long fight is really annoying, i feel with you

Regarding the gog version, can you tell me what changes were made,
i.e. does it use one of the existing exe versions, or a new one?
In case you can check this at the prompt with [FC /b path1\file1 path2\file2 > path3\file3.txt]

Both… the download does include the original “Wiz8.exe” but also has the “Launch Wizardry 8” which is what you should use.

I have seen some people get caught by this before.
