One of the coolest, and ahead of its time, is the start menu. While there you see a statue and some doors. As soon as you start a game, those doors open and thrust you into the dungeon.. no loading! the start menu is in the dungeon itself!

ok maybe a little nerdy, but I am sure there are other things to point out.
The descriptions of rooms in the castle are pretty great, particularly the kitchen. I also like that the castle makes sense as a three-dimensional structure - I feel I could build a model of it.

I'm down as far as the mines and am a little disappointed that those room descriptions seem to be becoming rarer and shorter as I go. Plus the mountain didn't seem to make sense as a 3D space the same way the castle did.
