I recently did a fresh install of Wiz 8 from the original disks to a box running under Win 7 Professional. And it appears Wiz 8 will not run now. Instead, I get the popup asking if I want to make changes to the computer, and if I say yes it just quits. No startup, no disk search, nothing. And yes, the run disk is in the drive.

Which leads one to wonder what the GoG version is doing that I am not. The previous install told me I had to run as administrator, which was foolish because I am the administrator and sole user, and do have full privileges on this box (for what that's worth). Since I could find no workaround for that, I uninstalled and re-installed, which is now giving me this problem. I note that both shortcut and .exe file are tagged to run in WinXP compatibility mode. So I am at the end of what little wits I posses, and am reluctant to purchase the GoG version to see if it doesn't have this problem. Obviously, many people are playing it without a problem. Just not me, alas.

While I have no idea really I wonder how the disks work nowadays. Does your machine read the disks on start attempt? There is a "no cd .exe" around on the net - have you tried that? Is your game updated?

you don't have sole admin rights on a fresh w7 pro box... you have client side rights because Microsoft is a network system.

1. install the game outside the c programs files folder, so something like c Games then update your g-card drivers and make sure the system sound is working outside of the game.

2. right cliclk the desk top icon for wiz8 and under advanced tell it to run as admin... this gives it more ram to use in w7 and also tells Microsoft to not allow pop ups telling you to upgrade something pointless until you have finished playing.

3. tell your firewall | av software to butt out ... the options depend on what software you are using.
4. disable auto system update or Microsoft will infect your system with their GWX app to down load wx without permission.

Nope, I am already running as administrator and the program is already in it's own folder, I never install to "Program Files." And the drivers all work. And autoupdate is already off, I know about the Win10 virus. Mty drivers are all up to date.

what anti-v program are you using?
fail to install sounds like a disc-safe issue... have you got any V-mount software (like daemon tools) installed?

It installed fine. What it won't do is run.
