Hello,
I've played to level 4 so far, I already know the whole game from the DOS version, and although it's really fun to see the game in newer graphics, a bit more details would be nice too but it's fine I guess, I saw that one major design flaw is still present. It existed in the original game and I don't really have a solution for it, but maybe you could brainstorm something in your team.
So, there is the inn where you can rest to heal in the city. The higher the price, the better the healing, BUT you also can jsut heal the priest for free, go in the dungeon and heal everyone with priest spells, Then go back to town and rest again for free to get the spells back. So the whole Rest to Heal system is completely obsolete.
I played the Dos version with Where Are We, a mapping program with additional features, and they also seem to know about that "trick", so they give an option that the party is automaticlally healed by the priest when entering town. The problem with that is, that it doesn''t solve the problem.^^ The Pay/Rest to Heal option is still obsolete.
It's always been a trap option.

Probably stems from AD&D, where one night's rest could restore your spells (including healing spells), but natural healing was horribly slow. I think they fixed that in 4e or 5e, but that didn't come out in time for Wizardry to copy it.

The "rest heals all" mechanic is one of the major improvements that a few later CRPGs, like Might & Magic and Dragon Quest, incorporated. (Then again, DQ1 still has a place in the starting castle where you can restore your MP for free, and if you have MP you have a healing spell, but going to the inn still costs 6 gold in the first town.)

I remember seeing what I think was the original manual. In the back they had an example of play, and when I read about them healing up in time, I was thinking about how stupid the player was.

On the other hand, I've seen speedrunners occasionally pay to rest to heal, as typical speedrun parties might be lacking in healing, plus healing take time. The NES version speedrun uses a Figher and a Mage, with the Fighter dropped after the first battle with Creeping Coins?. The Apple 2 version speedrun uses a Bishop and a Mage, though the Bishop doesn't level up and therefore never gets any healing magic. (The Apple 2 speedrun I saw was done damageless, with the Mage having 2/38 HP at the end of the run.)

There are numerous problems being reported with the game, but I don't think what you're describing is really a problem. You do have the inconvenience of going back and forth between the Adventurer's Inn and the maze quite a bit to avoid paying for healing. If what you describe is a problem, is the pooling of money by using the pre-made party a problem too? How about the auto mapping? There might be some people who think that you should not have the map made for you. The game isn't exactly a stroll in the park so I don't know if it's necessary to make it more difficult. Besides, can't you just ignore the heal for free option?
