Hey!

I'm not sure if it is a bug or on purpose that the explored map is empty after returning to town to rest etc.

Does anyone know? I'd actually prefer it to stay because I already explored that... but can imagine it's on purpose.

I think it's on purpose
You can cast DUMAPIC and you will recover the map

Also, while exploring you can press X on the gamepad to open the full map of what you have explored.
