You can make single image for all disks, no need to swap anything. It basically works the same way like in Infinity engine-based games. I converted both original WC3 and WC4 to DVD when i got my first DVD-RW drive.

And the guys at GOG know a thing or two about this stuff.

Maybe they don't have permission to release CD version, i highly doubt it though.

So yeah, if possible it will be great to see dosbox-based release. Not only for Linux/OS X users but it will be great to run this game on portable devices.

As I said, yes you can make the cd images all one, but it hardly matters. The game will still do the cd prompt when it needs too. one file or many doesn't change that, it's still a couple of clicks of the mouse as it's all loaded into dosbox.

JamesBond007: I have a suggestion - you should bring the CD version of Wing Commander 4 as an alternative download. Videos are in worse quality, but unlike the DVD version, the game does not have any compatibility issues:

- Windows version works without problems (at least on 32-bit systems up to Vista - 7, 8 and 64-bit not tested). Compatibility settings are not required
- obviously, you have a choice between DOS and Windows versions
- it does not have sound or video problems (additional software like AC3Filter is not required)
- it has subtitles in the cutscenes, like in Wing Commander 3.
As of 04.11.2016 (November 4th 2016 for Americans :P ) Wing Commander IV now has a DOS version of the game available in the bonus goodies section.

Nice! Does this mean, that the German version will be added as well?

I'd have to look and see if we don't already have a German version laying around here somewhere >.>

Keep in mind, though, any German version of WCIV we do add will most likely be the Windows version...

Fair enough... Although I'm pretty sure there wasn't a pure Windows version of the German WC4...

Edit: Oh, I see, there was a Windows patch.
