Joystick works in game and is calibrated.... until i enter a mission then it shuts off... I can use it to shoot but i cant turn or do anything else... the mouse is terrible in these old flight sims so it makes the game unplayable

Have you opened the in-flight options and activated the joystick (should be alt-O or alt-P or something like that).
