Glad to see Wing Commander Academy, although I think this should have been bundled with Wing Commander Armada. Both lack storylines and are pretty much mission simulators.

Or along with the Wing Commander 1+2 pack as it uses most of the same graphics/engine.

Actually I agree, for myself I really don't see Acadamy having the same value by itself as the WC1+2 bundle. I mean I will probibly get it for completion sake, as i'm a wc fan, but that is hardly representative of evreyone. The fact is that there is very little in terms of game play here. A half an hour fooling around with the mission creator and gauntlet, until you realize that you could be playing wc2 and getting much more out of it. Origin knew it when they first released the game as a "budget title" in the first place. My opinion I always thought of this as WC2's missing simulator in the break room where that was already built into WC1,3,4,Prophecy. A bundle with Armada would certianly even out the discrepency.

In short $6 isn't a lot but when you compare it to what else 6 bucks will get you on this site, it hardly holds up.

I can't get past the opening screen. It just keeps kicking me back to windows. Anyone else having this problem?

I get to launching a mission, and then it kicks me off.

Both of you please write to us via the Support link for the game. Thanks and sorry for the hassle :(

Choose "Gauntlet" instead of "Execute" and you'll play... :>
I wonder, whether a bundle of Wing Commander Academy + Armada + Arena would be possible. The latter is an Xbox title, therefore it may pose a problem. Another option would be a combination of the Wing Commander Academy, (the game + the TV show as a bonus).

I'd like to see a port of Arena.

I like the idea of combining the TV show in the package!

I don't think charging $5 bucks for Academy alone, when you get 1&2 together for the same price is a that good of a value. There isn't enough in Academy to be worth it by itself.

Did anyone find a solution to the game crashing problem? Support didn't help. I've tried "Execute" on two different computers with two different video cards (Intel HD Graphics and NVidia). Loved this game and was looking forward to playing it again.

This is wrong... Gauntlet only activates one mode of the game which is the game gives you a increasing difficult waves of enemies to fight. It is not the main mode of the game.

The main mode of the game is the level editor, and ability to create mission objectives. Execute is the command to get you access to your created level.

If execute is causing the game to crash, then most of the game is broken. This is not some minor 'broken' but a main point of the game... This is a severe issue and one that GOG needs to remedy, especially if they are going continue to charge so much for it...
Maybe wait for a sale.
I'm wondering if they have uploaded corrupt files.
Ok, I think I figured out the problem, and why execute crashes.

When you create a mission, the game doesn't automatically count your mission as being 'loaded'.

So you make sure you first 'save' your mission. Then use the 'load' mission to then load the file.

At this point you should then be able to use execute with no problems.

This should then 'generate' several files into the gamedat folder.

AS.0 through AS.3 (four files total)

After this point as long as those files are in the gamedate, you should not have future crash problems. You will always have at least initial created mission loaded in memory in the game every time you load the game. But you'll need to create a new mission, save it and load it, to be able to access the new mission.
