Hey,
What exactly is in the Pack? From the flavor text I figure that WC1 Secret Missions 1+2 are included. What about the WC2 Special Operations 1+2 addons? And what about the WC2 Speec Pack?
Thanks in advance

Its the dosbox versions of WC1 & 2. There are no addons for either game. I think the speech pack is included with WC2 as there are several speech files in the folder and it has been mentioned that there is speech in the game intro.
None of the expansions from either game are included. The game description was misleading. Check it again, it has changed. WC2 does appear to have speech though.
Oh that answer was quick. I re-checked the flavor text a moment ago and now the references to the 2 Secret Missions Packs are gone.
I'm sad that this is another bare bones release of a "Electronic Arts" game like i.e. Dungeon Keeper. Seems like GOG got a raw deal for the EA games.
I'm womndering if they will release any games developed be EA, contrary to only Bullfrog and Origin games so far. I'd like to have games like Wasteland.

I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty certain that the four mission packs between WC and WCII were developed in-house at Origin... so the lack of them is prolly BS direction from EA... If this is how they're doin business with GOG, I'd rather go to ebay and buy a used copy of these games... at least that way I get all the content, and EA doesn't see another dime on the sale...
People please - lets be civil here. Wing Commander I includes the first secret missions expansion. SM2 , SO1 and SO2 are entirely different executables, they aren't actually attached to the original games except for the ability to transfer your pilot. GOG might have to do additional work on these files before they are ready to run properly.

Actually no. EA's just doing the usual, ie being an ass. Nothing has changed past 15+ years it seems.

quote from GOG staff

"Guys, it turns out that getting the rights for the expansions for the EA games is very, very, very complicated. While we are (of course) working on them, the rights clearance will not be resolved any time soon. In the mean time, though, two classic games that helped define the space shooter genre for $6 is nothing to sneeze at. "

Also all evidence points out that the expansions have actually been intentionally stripped from the games released so far.

They couldn't have been stripped out when they were never part of the original games. SM1-2 and SO1-2 were extra disks that users had to buy in the 1990s. Even when The Kilrathi Saga came out in the mid-1990s the expansions weren't included...they were free downloads made available at the old OSI site.

GOG and EA are working on getting users the expansions.
Very annoying. I saw the game text earlier today that it mentioned the 3 campaigns and now when I got time to spare I bought it, only to then realise the two Secret Missions for WC1 weren't included at all. Those two missions were the reason why I bought it.

I already have WC1 for the Amiga and played the Vega Campaign before, and I have the PC CD version of WC2 as well.

So I wasted $6. Sucks.

I have every confidence that the expansions for Priv, WC1 and WC2 will be available to people in the future.

Actually EA CD-ROM Classics version contained both games, the expansions and speech packs. Same with EA CD-ROM Classics version or Wing Commander: Privateer. Alpha Centauri also had release with the Alien Crossfire included as did Dungeon Keeper.

Also at least Alpha Centauri and Dungeon Keeper released on GOG contain remnents of their expansions in their files so they were evidently stirpped before release either by EA before handing files to GOG or by GOG on EA's insistence. EA is the one forcing GOG to release games as is (see text I queted). I don't even know why EA is doing this other than showing GOG who's boss considering number of EA games have been included in numerous PC Game magazine cover disks WITH ALL EXPANSIONS INCLUDED for crying out loud. So I stick to my view that EA is just doing the usual EA stuff it has been doing since it's founding, ie being an ass. They are the most paranoid gaming company in existence, have always been and always will be.
EA didn't prove the game data; they actually came from the personal collection of a GOG employee.

There is a HUGE miscommunication here, though--Paul Barnett, the EA producer who started this whole process, just tweeted last night that he was trying to figure out why the GOG releases didn't have the addons. I'm pretty sure he'll get to the bottom of this and we'll get the disks--he's a good guy.

My guess is GOG doesn't want to do anything that could possibly endanger their new deal with EA, so they're sticking to the letter of their contract right now, which doesn't mention expansions... but the other side is that EA doesn't know the addons even exist in the first place (or care whether GOG includes them).

EA has never published the Secret Missions or Special Operations disks as a separate SKU--they were all before the buyout... as far as EA is concerned, "Wing Commander 1 and 2" is the CD-ROM version with the mission disks included.
Does anyone have the link to the tweet? I would love to have both SM1 and SM2 and the SO's.
I can't for the life of me figure out how you link to a specific tweet in new Twitter, but it's his first one as I'm posting this - http://twitter.com/#!/thatbarnettblok
Man... I hope that this is all a horrible misunderstanding... at least for the Wing Commander games =P ...I don't know for sure, but I think everything released by Origin was produced in-house and shouldn't require additional licensing deals since they're solely owned by EA now. I'm almost positive that's the case with the first two WC games anyways.
