That's the exact joystick I'm using for those games and I find it perfectly suitable for them. Let me know if you need any particular details about it.
Oh cool! Was the joystick easy to set up for the games? Do the games run smoothly?

Well exact details will have to wait until my bday when I get it :)

Thank you!

The Wing Commander games do have individual issues that need to be worked out on a game-by-game basis, but I managed to play each one to completion. I have only played some of X-Wing but it worked fine. I don't recall having to do anything too complex to setup the joystick with each game.
Take the Thrustmaster T.16000m also in consideration, very good value for the money.

As for games on GOG that work with Dosbox, always check if in the .conf file:

[joystick]
timed=false

And you can use Ctrl+F1 to map joystick buttons.

Either that or the T16000, the latter may be a bit better because it uses magnetic sensors but YMMV.

They both have an official mapping software with profiles which is a blessing with older games with limited stick support as it's more intuitive than the dosbox mapper.

If you can afford it and want the best build quality CH Products is better however (they are made more like industrial machinery controls than game peripherals) and they have their own software profiler as well, either the combatstick or fighterstick (the flightstick pro is more for dual sticks setups as it has less buttons and can be used with the left hand) will do depending if you prefer to have a simple button (better for panic under a frantic situation) or a hat switch (more functions, but in the most frantic moments it's easier to pull the hat switch in the wrong direction, also it costs more) under your thumb.

Stuff like the famous thrustmaster warthog is overkill for spacesims (and way too stiff as well, it's essentially specialized equipment for some hardcore fighter jet sims) and the Saitek and Madcatz sticks (even the expensive ones) are too frail for the kind of jerking motions necessary for these games. I mentioned those in case you were swayed by some major game portal article, they tend to write a lot about these because they are also the most flashy and heavily marketed products and often are made by people with not a lot of experience with these peripherals due to a mix of having very young or more console-centric people writing them.

Lesser thrustmaster models like the T-flight and the HOTAS X don't have full software support so they have less compatibility options for older games than the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, Thrustmaster T16000 and the CH Products sticks.
