Hi

After downloading the game for the third time (GOG Downloader crashed twice in the same location) and given the fact it's a massive file I was happy to be able to DL manually the last two files from the GOG website without using the GOG-DL program.

After installing (And with file integrity check ticked on) the game refuses to launch.

I get a popup immediately after the screen turns black which say: "WC4VD Has stopped working". Windows trying to find a solution to your problem blahblahblah.

I also tried setting admin mode on theshortcut.

If you download WC4 manually, your firewall will tell you the files are virused
, well mine did anyway (I have Comodo anti-virus and Firewall)
same thing happened to me on my laptop. i had to download a fix to get it working on vista 64. forget where i got it. i'm at work.
Remembered it was called wc4dvdfix. Hope this helps.
Yeah, I already installed that one.

I did get the game to work however. Only thing is the videos are not working.

I get 2 error windows each time it tries to play a video. One of them I can't see, just close. The other one sais DXMCI Error - Error loading video.

Seems like the path to the videos isn't working as intended but once "ok'ing" the errors I can choose replies and make the game move forewards.

I'll try to re-install to "C:/wc4" instead of the default "C:/GOG Games/WC4" could be as stupid as this.
You cannot post any links at this moment.

I have spent time to write the solution and get this stupid forum msg. So fuck it! But yeah it works now too bad I cant post the solution.
I've got exactly the same issue, after a 6Gb download immediate CTD, the game says Win8 compatible, dont think so! Shame you cant post the fix you managed :(

Hi,

I am running the GOG version of WC4 under Windows 8 64bit and it works happily. Use Win98 compatibility setting. I have to admit that I have found Win8 be very good (apart from the ridiculous new desktop which is an unsorted shambolic mess...) and some things like e.g. Grand Prix Legends (plus the mega patch from the GPL Preservation Society) run better than under Win7 64bit.

I have an Intel i7-3770 with 16GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX570.

The only thing I have noticed is that you have to move your mouse from time to time otherwise your screensaver kicks in and if you press a key you just get a still image while the sound continues to run - press escape and the game switches back to the non-video part and everything works fine again.

What is your system configuration?
