Trying to get my ps3 controller to work for Wing Commander 4. I can fly around with the left stick and shoot with X (A on the 360) just fine but it doesn't let me enter the calibrate joystick menu (I'm assuming this is where I go to define the controls and axes). As of now, the game detects the shoulder (trigger) buttons as the throttle axis, which means I can hold L2 (LT) to set throttle to 0, hold R2 (RT) to set it to max, but if I'm not holding a shoulder button throttle is set to 50%.

I'm fine with using both the controller and keyboard (same thing I do in Evochron Mercenary and the X series), but it would be cool to be able to use the stick to fly around and the command buttons to target/shoot/drop decoys. Anyone have any luck getting this classic to run with a game controller?

As far as I know there is no way to change the controls in the Windows version of WC4.
You can try using a program like Xpadder or Joytokey to program keyboard commands to your PS3 buttons.
Note that using an external controller program won't make the game stop seeing the controller directly as well so you would need to disable the game's own controller support (by setting the in-game input method to keyboard) otherwise you may get weird results.
