People say that there is a Windows patch for WC4 which let's the game run natively on 64 bit systems. Can anyone explain if and how this is working with the GOG released of WC4?
This question / problem has been solved by Silver83image
I can't comment on the GOG version since I haven't been able to buy it yet. But with the original I had all kinds of problems the windows patch. Performance issues, inverted colors, sound and video issues, even in compatability modes. This was on Windows 7 64-bit.

I found it was more stable and enjoyable in dosbox, even if i had to mess with the cpu cycles a lot. Maybe other people have had more luck with it than me.

Edit: You should be able to find the patch and all related info you need at http://www.wcnews.com

The GOG version works perfectly for me in 64-Bit Windows. I'm running the Windows 8 preview build and it's great, I imagine Win 7 is good to go as well.

Did you read my post? Running it via DOSbox is not running it natively.
It IS the WIndows version my friend :) And I can confirm it's running great on Win7 64bit.

Btw.: There never was a DVD Dos version of this game ;)
Uhmm... errrr..., yeah, you're right. I failed! :D Tried it now and it seems to run perfectly well.

Awesome good to know. I'll have to move this up on my buy list if it's a working Windows version!
I can run WC4 in Windows 7 64 bit fine, but the sound doesn't work in cut scenes! I've been told by Gog.com support to download various codecs, but these cause other problems such as toolbars in my browser, and upside down video clips.

Anyone know how to sort this?
Sorry Silver83... but WC4 was originally released as a 6 CD dos version... I still have them... but about a year after release there was a patch that alllowed it to run in win95 that has allow it to work... also some of the cut scenes are different as they were reshot for the special edition release for windows that came in the Kilrathi box set that this build was taken from... the original scenes were thought to be too violent for kids... you can find them on youtube if you look.
"Kilrathi box set",
Uh, you mean the The Kilrathi Saga?

That was only the first three games in the trilogy made to be win95 native, and also added in some extra features like new soundtracks, and windows gamepad/joystick support.

I'm sure if WC4 was ever in a box set with the other games in the series.

The only thing you should need to install for the movie audio is AC3filter.
