I am unable to do this. There are 4 heavy fighters with turrets on their tails, which makes traditional dogfighting impossible, and my wingman bails out usually before I managed to kill the first one. Sometimes I manage to disperse them or even kill them all, but my wingman always ejects.

Which means, I have to make the torpedo run alone. Until now I NEVER had any problems with making torpedo runs against undedenfed targets, even when they're shooting with flak canons, or even anti-matter guns. I tried to shoot the torpedo from beyond her range, but then the flak cannons just destroy the torpedo. I read in the guide that I have to release it in 1500 m. I tried, and the flak cannons just murdered that close.

Now, I can't really experiment with release distances, because it's not like I can just destroy the 4 heavy fighters any time I want. So, what's the trick here? Do I just have to get lucky with the fighters?

When I first met these tailgunner fighters, I came up with a technique: I aim sideways a bit and step on the afterburner, then I turn towards the enemy and shoot. And every time my speed bleeds away, I repeat. This way I can evade the rear turrets, but sometimes the fuel just isn't enough for 4 fighters + escaping from the flak. And I can't do a torpedorun with the 4 heavy fighters shooting missiles at me, because I either get destroyed (if I sit in the cockpit to stay on target), or get thrown off course by a missile (if I sit in the turret to fend off my pursuers).

As the first kill is the most important, sometimes I shoot multiple missiles at the first target, because dogfighting 2 v 3 is much easier than 2 v 4, and if I manage to get 2 fast kills with missiles, 2 v 2 would be just splendid. But in this case this somehow doesn't work. The game doesn't let me spam missiles, I have to wait considerable time between them (it seemed way easier when I cleared the jumppoint with the Broadsword, spamming FF missiles blindly into space, and waiting for them to find their targets, but that ship had shields and armor). So, the first kill takes so long, I find it ridiculous. Certainly it would help if I could aim better with my guns, but even the targetting computer seems to be off a bit in this situation.

I even tried to just eject, thinking that maybe I don't have to win every mission, but then I just got a cutscene that my carrier was destroyed. So, I guess, I have to do this somehow as it's supposed to be done, but I have no idea how, short of getting faster reflexes somehow.

So, what do I do here? Any advice? Ideas? Thanks.

I know this is several months old, but I just beat this mission after like 20 attempts myself, so I'm gonna share what I learned just in case you never got past this (or someone else needs help). The hardest part by far is the Jalkehi, so it's good that you have a bit of a strategy for them. I can tell you that you're only able to fire one missile at a time -- you can fire another just as soon as the first explodes. The only thing Jazz will be good for is keeping the other fighters busy awhile -- I ordered him to attack the first one that came into targeting range, and it seemed like I got to go 1-on-1 with my target for maybe a whole minute before Jazz ejected, which was about enough time to get the kill. Mainly what I'd advise is to spend most of your time flying evasively while keeping your target generally in front of you (using the afterburner carefully to keep yourself at his side instead of behind him where that turret kills you), wait for your guns to charge fully, and then fire a full salvo. And yes, use your missiles freely.

The torpedo run is a total cakewalk relatively. The critical knowledge is that a Ralatha requires two torpedos to kill. So, that one you fired within 1500m probably hit it but just didn't kill it. And I assume both torpedos have to hit the same section of the ship. So I went at it head-on for both of my torpedo runs, since that seems like the biggest section, easiest to hit twice. Other pilots in cutscenes say the engines are the least-armored part of a ship, though, so maybe going in from the back only requires one torpedo. Anyway, sounds like you know the trick of waiting just outside of flak range while the torpedo locks on, so do that, hit your burners, fire within 2000m, repeat.

If that doesn't work, forget about it, because you don't actually need to kill the Ralatha to progess past this mission, and it may not make any difference to the ensuing missions at all. When you return home, three Grikath are attacking the Concordia, but they're extremely easy compared to the Jalks. Thankfully this carrier can defend itself pretty well, unlike the Tiger's Claw!

Thanks for the advice, I'll try this next time.
