How does one configure the sticks and buttons of a gamepad in WC1? Mapper doesn't seem to work with my Logitech gampad. Although, I may be able to get the Logitech software to emulate a keyboard. I'd prefer to configure the game and it's Dosbox instead of the joystick driver per game.
I don't think there is a way in WC1 or 2, every thing was VERY simple back then.

There were NO joypads for PC and most joysticks were simple 2/4 button,2 axis affairs so most of the controls were hardwired to the keyboard.

Sorry but it looks like you are stuck, realy only three options are available with the WC games:

KEYBOARD

MOUSE\KEYBOARD

JOYSTICK\KEYBOARD

But what ever you do KEYBOARD is nessecery.
IIRC, Kilrathi Saga included improved joystick support. Unfortunately that may be broken in current versions of windows.
have you tried X padder? if not try remapping the keys to your joystick/gamepad with that

Try editing dosboxWC.conf and changing the joysticktype= setting to one of the others listed (I'd try ch first).

You'll find this file in the Wing Commander folder in C:\GOG Games\ or wherever you installed it to.

If DOSBox still can't see all your buttons/axes you may need to replace DOSBox with a build that has the joystick patch, Taewoong's DOSBox SVN Daum. This requires moving some things around manually to replace the DOSBox EXE and such but would result in DOSBox definitely being able to see all buttons/axes.

Thanks. I did try the alt "[joystick]" options and found "4axis" worked best for me. So far I've resorted to using Logitech's keyboard mapping software. It is functional and allows me to fully utilize the buttons any way I want. Though I suspect it won't help on Ubuntu; even with WINE.

Later I may try using Dosbox's mapper (Ctrl + F1) again. Maybe it'll work better now that the Logitech software is installed (instead of only the driver bundled with Win7).
