I tried to use the search function but couldn't find a thread that helped. So, here goes:
In a nutshell, I'd like to know how to play this game. What I mean is, I'd like to know the controls. I have played the game a lot on the SNES, but never on the PC before now, and I'm pretty clueless what the controls are. I can use Mouse1 to shoot and aim, but I've no idea, for example, how to use the afterburner or chat with my wingman because I don't know the buttons. Is there a way I can configure keys before I start up the game? Can you give me specific steps how to do that? Or, if key configuration isn't possible, can someone give me the full list of controls? I tried to look for those in the manual, but to my surprise it didn't mention anything about the controls.

Also, is it mandatory to use the mouse in this game? Or can I assign the arrow keys for aiming and navigating. Like I said, the SNES version is familiar to me and therefor I'm kinda used to playing the game without the freedom of a mouse. Thanks for any responses.

I'd recommend using a joystick to control your spaceship. You can't change the keyboard layout but the game does come with a reference card that explains in detail the function of each used key.
Like xy2345 said, there's a reference card included with the game purchase that outlines the controls. You can download it from the same page you download the game. And yes, you can use the arrow keys as controls. You can even use the arrows on the number pad if you so wish. It really is best to use a joystick, though. If you have one or care to get one, I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get used to it and you'd likely find it much more fun to use than the arrow keys.
Thanks for the replies, I didn't think to look at the reference card, I'll do that.

I don't have a joystick, but I do have an Xbox 360 controller, and I saw a thread where a guy had posted his setup. I think I might need to give that a shot as well.
