Does the invincibility cheat work on the Mac versions of WC1 and 2? I've tried editing the file in .../Wing Commander 2/Contents/Resources/Wing Commander II.boxer/DOSBox Preferences.conf. This is what at the [autoexec] section looks like:

[autoexec]
Origin -k

That doesn't do anything. Are the Mac versions of the games simply without cheats at all? Or am I just doing something wrong?

The standalone Boxer is set to launch the wc.exe based off the .plist file before it ever reads what is in the dosbox preferences file. Therefore you should probably open the .plist file search for where it says wc.exe and see if you can append the cheat there. (but even then i'm not sure if that will work. perhaps if it were in quotes?) Email Alun Bestor, the boxer dev, and he may come up with a better solution.

Well a work around (and solution to some of my other issues that need command line options or executing of auxiliary programs like netbios and call network) is to create a bat file, simply a txt file renamed .bat at the end. There you can put "wc origin -k" (without quotes) or what ever it is. Then you can point the p list file to your new .bat file. But again I'd email alun bestor. in fact if you havn't already I'll do that.
I just got Wing Commander 1&2 on sale for the Mac.

Is there a way to enable the cheat code?

Thank you in advance.

There is, I had to do it for the damn Secret Missions which i found impossibly hard.

If memory serves, you need to open up the package (maybe twice - you might need to open up the wing commander.boxer package as well). Then I think you use text edit to edit the boxer file - I believe it is called wing commander.boxer or something. Towards the end of the document is the line that runs the game - just add "Origin -k" (withouth the "") to the end of the line.

If the above makes no sense, let me know and I will check it when I am home and explain it better...
THANK YOU!
Hi there,

I'm almost at the end of Secret Missions 2 but just can't get through the Corsair missions and am starting to get frustrated! I've tried to follow your advice regarding adding the Origin -k but can't seem to see where to do it, and when I have edited the files it doesn't seem to work.

If you have any time I'd be grateful if you can show me step by step how to do this. I'm getting tired of playing the same mission over and over again - I'm sure you understand!

I've got the mac version of WC from GOG.

Many, many thanks in advance,

Aleks

I accidentally reset my Boxer game data and lost all my saves so I'm trying to cheat my way back to where I was, but I'm also having trouble getting the cheat to work. I've got it setup like in the picture, and I assumed that was enough to make me invincible, but it's not working. Any idea what's wrong?

Ah, I got it to work by adding the cheat to WC.BAT instead. Thanks anyway!

I've posted a picture, you'll need to open the WC.bat file in TextEdit and add Origin -k to the end of the last line in the file. This file is located in Wing Commander 1 -> Contents -> Resources -> Wing Commander.boxer -> C WC.harddisk. I hope that helps! :)

I'm sorry, but I'm insanely new to Macs. Where do I go to access these files. I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I've just re-downloaded the file and it looks like they made a few changes to the directory structure.
Open your Applications directory in Finder, then right-click on the Wing Commander application file, then select 'Show Package Contents'. Then open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder, then the game folder. Then again right-click on the Wing Commander application file, then select 'Show Package Contents'. Then open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder, then the 'game' folder. Find Wing Commander.boxer, and right click on that file and select 'Show Package Conents', then open the C WC.harddisk folder. You can then open the WC.bat file in this directory and add the cheats, as depicted in the image in my earlier post.
