Hi Guys,
Ive just recently downloaded WC Privateer and WC 3 and they both have same problem. (REALLY POOR GRAPHICS). When i last played these games back in 1995 i had same problem. This was fixed by a friend of mine who rejiggled directx config and other stuff.
When i first start WC 3 it says vesa driver present SVGA available but the graphics are really pixelated and reall poor.
I know there is a graphics mode setup for DOSBox configurator in the game menu, so does anyone have any idea what settings i should be using for best graphics in basic and advanced settings.
There is also a settings menu which which tests graphics card, sound and cpu speed etc etc. ive ran tests and its saying i have SVGA but when i try to run game it says vesa not svga.

Im not the greatest on computers, so if anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Steve

The only enhancement you can make to the low resolution of these old games is applying one of DOSBox' scaler.
They multiply the original resolution x2 or x3 while recalculating the picture according to the scalers algorithm. Which one looks best is a matter of taste. HQ2 is usually a good balance, not too blurry and not too pixelated, but it uses more hardware resources than other scalers.
Here are samples what the different scaler modes do and how it looks like:
http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Scaler

In the DOSBox configurator set Graphic Mode to Direct3D or OpenGL.
In the Advanced Settings, set the Scaling Engine you like best.
I also prefer to keep the aspect ratio instead of stretching the picture to fit widescreen monitors, but that's also a matter of taste. So you might want to check or uncheck this option.

Hi,
Does anyone out there who have some of the wing commander games. I've downloaded 2 and they are both really bad graphics. I had these games back in 1995 and the quality was 100% better than I'm getting now. Especially on the movie scenes it's so pixelated its hard to make out anything at all.
When I start WC 3 it's states that I have VESA and SVGA is available???
This happens nearly 20 years ago when I first bought the original game, my friend did some jigging in direct x config and other stuff and then the picture quality was great.
Does anyone know how I rectify this problem. I'm not the greatest on computers so any info or idiots guide would be fantastic.

No, he didn't, because the game didn't use DirectX. Actually DirectX 1.0 was released the year after WC3.

Please post a screenshot.
