How do I get friendly with the military faction? seems i have pissed them off by accidently friendly fire and they wont leave me alone now

I thought only Privateer 1 lets you become enemies with the military long-term? I thought Privateer 2 allowed you to become an enemy with the military, then go to a planet, take off, and you're friendly with the military again.

I believe the military are enemies with pirates, so you should be able to become friends with them by killing a bunch of pirates.
