I remember this big blob of a game crashing CONSTANTLY back in the days.
Are these issues fixed?
Do I have to worry about dropbacks to windows?

Didn't Origin actually make a patch that fixed most of the crash bugs from the original release, when they added the win 95 support as well?

Yeah, I played through it 7 or 8 years ago and it didn't seem to have any bugs at all.

From memory, the original DOS edition was horrendous, I seem to remember having to write a letter (with paper and ink and stuff) and they posted me a floppy disk with a patch on, crash to dos and many other issues were fixed, further on from that a windows native edition appeared, I assume this has the DOX fixes included.

I am wondering on this release, is it the DOS version with Dosbox, or a newly compiled Win Version, and what version of the videos is included, still interlaced??

I'll update when I've installed, but I'm at work at the mo, and cant check.

Was a non-interlaced version officially released? Or only fan mods to de-interlace the video?

Anyway, to answer my own questions, its the DOS version (I assume patched) in a DOXBox wrapper.

The videos are still interlaced, very retro!.

I don't mind, I love this game, warts and all, still have my original Box etc

I actually prefer the interlace over non-interlace if the game was designed in interlance in mind. Only because it hides the 'artifacting' and the low resolution pixilation..

If there are official higher resolution videos without the artifacting available then by all means that is the way to go!

Gog still needs to upgrade several games to the Mpeg or DVD releases. Return to Zork, Zork Grand Inquisitor, the last Tex Murphy game, etc..

GOG's version is the DOS version, patched up to latest offcial version 17.0e. As far as I know there never was a version with non-interlaced video, not even the 'Deluxe' version for Windows, but all the videos are available in better quality separately from a VHS source via WC CIC here: http://www.wcnews.com/holovids/cinematics_privateer2.shtml . Not sure if anyone was ever able to patch these into the game though!
