Dear gods, I'm so frackin' bad at this game...

I tried monkeying around with the mouse sensitivity, and even using just the keyboard to steer, but the subtlety of spacefighter precision flying still eludes me.

In the very first mission I have no problems with the fighters - admittedly it was a long time since I've played a spacesim (TIE fighter) but I manage to shoot the enemy down.

But the asteroid field... Gods damn those asteroids! No matter how hard I try, no matter how slow I go, I get hit by those nasty spacerocks all the time.

Is it just me? Do I just suck? Are there any hints and tips you can give me? Because at the moment I just can't properly judge whether a rock is on collision course with my craft. They seem too jump arround, and appear from nowhere!

Avoid the asteroid fields as much as possible is one thing to try. Obviously there are situations where you can't. But if you CAN fly around them, it's usually worth the extra time to do so.

That said, one really counter-intuitive thing that I've found helps if you have to go through an asteroid field is to just point toward your nav point and slam your afterburners. I'd say it works about 75% of the time that you won't hit a single asteroid. That makes no sense, of course, but give it a shot. I'll think you'll be surprised.
Asteroids aren't static, although most of them are slow enough not to be a threat. The real problem is that every once in a while the program will spawn a very fast one in route of collision with your ship; they are hard to notice and you'll have a really short time widow to react. The best solution I found was to slightly change direction every few seconds, using external cameras also helps. Speed isn't crucial, but I found keeping the engines at 3/4 power gave the best results.

Also, you need a joystick to play WC properly, really. It's still sort of playable with alternative controls, I made a full playthrough with keyboard only after my joystick broke, but it felt at least twice as hard than before.
If you have real problems and can't think of a way out the best thing to do is to use the cheat code:

Origin -k

this should be added to the bottem of the dosboxconfig file.

adding this will make you invincibe, totaly unkillable and allow you to insta-kill the cats changing some missions from unwinable to possible.

check the forums there are plenty there to show you how exacly.

I know many people will think it's terible to cheat like this, but the old and simple AI that makes kilrathi ships fly right in to you and the simple graphics witch meeam you can't tell distance very well some times the best thing to is cheat.
