rjspring: Never played it, but would like to see it on GOG
What, Freelancer? You can play demo version (c.a. 147 MB) if you want to know how it looks like. After playing demo I ordered full version ASAP regardless of its price (twice more then other games in May 2003).

AFAIK there is no playable demo for Priv 2...

Well, both actually if including freelancer. Too bad Chris Roberts has dropped off the gaming map since Digital Anvil was bought by Microsoft. Looks like he has some producing credits though on some movies that I've liked since then.
Privateer 2? On GOG? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
For evidence on how bad it is, see this review:

Note in particular the part where it shows THE AI CANNOT KILL A MOTIONLESS TARGET.

Ahahahahaha!
Insanely hilarious. :D
One of Spoony's best. ;)
I hope one day for the Wing Commander Series. I loved all of these and hope they will show up some day.

Tarm: Yeah. Elite on GOG would be pure awesomeness. :)

Privateer 1 sure isn't perfect but still one of the best in it's genre so I'm happy with it.
I remember having some trouble with creating a boot disk for it but not that much. By the time I had to get it to run I was pretty jaded with juggling memory usage.

hercufles: welll lets say the perfect game isnt invented yet but yeah for this time it was a very good game and i miss that space exploration and sandbox idea, i heard there is an elite 4 coming but i haven seen any footage or screenshots, i only see it on some game sites where you can preorder it.

well i hope so too but dont think it will happen.
Since Privateer 2 inherited the extremely high production values of the last Wing Commander games, I'd absolutely love to see that one put on here.I never actually got to play it but I read this superb behind the scenes article that was all about the creation of it in a book that was chronicling the different facets of the multimedia PC of the 1990's.Man those were some amazing times.

Tarm: I guess I belonged to both fanboy camps. :)
The controls wasn't that hard once I realised trying to move in both axis was almost impossible. So I only moved in one axis at a time. For example pressed the right arrow which made the ship turn like going around the clock and when the spot I was aiming at was in the right position on the clock I pressed the up or down arrow to get it in the crosshairs.

hercufles: its too bad elite isnt availeble legaly i hope it comes on gog as well but for that time we have privateer. Im a bit cynical if it comes to privateer i remember when i bought the game i was thinking it was 1 with beter graphics because i never could play 1, I only could read reviews about it and i remember that it was a game on itself to get that bugger running, It had its own will sometimes it run but crashes later on it it didnt run at all, the trading system was bad as well you hired chargo ships to carry your junk. part 2 almost ruined my perspective of privateer i tought 1 could be bad as 2 but when i played 1 here on gog i understand that luckely it isnt true that part 2 is forgetteble and 1 is still the best.
Elite is available perfectly legally.

Ian Bell, one of the original authors hosts a wide variety of versions available to download for free from his website: http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/game.htm

Strangely, he says that he believes the NES version is the best, but for me it's the original BBC version that I love!

thanks m8 i hope my joystick will work with that.
I was a playtester on Privateer 2.

Privateer 2 wasn't created by Origin. It was created by Erin Roberts' studio in the UK (EA Manchester) and was originally just called The Darkening. After seeing all of the problems it was having (terrible AI, non-remappable controls, constant crashes, poor trade routes, terrible missions, etc) Electronic Arts decided to release it as Privateer 2: The Darkening in order to boost its sales. We playtesters found all these problems but were overruled (something that should never have happened) by EA corporate.

The Darkening is not an Origin game, not a Privateer game, and not a Wing Commander game, no matter what it says on the box.

Very true
Actually, I liked Privateer 2 . The mission selection bulletin looked quite cool, the FMVs weren't bad , and there were some good missions (I liked the one where we had to solve the riddles of a maniac named "Scorpion" to find a kidnapped girl).
