Using an Acer 22" LCD widescreen. (if that helps at all)

Problem, only can use Normal in any combination of setup to work correctly BUT - graphics are all blocky looks more like 8 bit NES game. Anyway - I have read the previous thread about this topic but that didn't solve my problem.

rgb3x - has the best quality of gfx BUT - of course a problem - there are thin lines of black running diaginally across the monitor.

I am assuming because of my LCD screen its causing problems with scalling engines.

Anyway I am looking for help with this.. if maybe someone has a possible combination of Graphic modes that bring the true clarity of the graphics.

Your video card's scaling may be getting in the way. Open your video card's control panel and access the properties for your display. You'll see a setting asking about scaling. Experiment with the different settings here (sorry that my directions are a bit vague).
edit the dosboxWC.conf and dosboxWC2.conf files.

Pretty much on the top you should find this:

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=original
windowresolution=original
output=overlay
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper.map
usescancodes=true

change fullresolution=original to the exakt resolution of your LCD (for example fullresolution=1920x1080).
change output=overlay (or whatever) to output=ddraw

further down you'll find
aspect=false

you should change this to aspect=true to correct possilbe stretching issues.

This way you should get the most pixel perfect rendition of the old games. This will work on any GoG-release using DOSbox, in case you will encounter problems again.
As far as I can see you can change all relevant graphic setting in the Graphic mode setup configurator without manually changing everything in the .conf files.
Just look into your start menu-->GOG.Com -> Wing Commander 1 and 2 --> Wing Commander 1

I play with DDraw and hq3x; rgb3x is just too dark for my tastes and these simulated rgb pixels irritate me.
You can't set the fullscreen-resolution. Not every graphicscard or display contain a good scaler, so it's best to feed the display the correct native resolution to get the best possible results.

of course you can under "Advanced Settings" --> Window Resolution; there you can select the native resolution of your display and tick "Keep Aspect Ratio" to prevent any stretching issues
and under "Basic Settings" tick "Full Screen"

or do I misunderstand you and you mean something eintirely different? :)
"window resolution" is the resolution when NOT running fullscreen. As far as I can see, you can not set the fullscreen resolution using "Graphic mode setup"
