Hey guys, I've tried downloading Wing Commander 3 a few times today and I've had some problems.

Not entirely sure if it's related to the game setup.exe or if it's just my computer.

Basically the first time I tried to download it I got a checksum error on chunk 9. I restarted the download and it finished, but then said the file was corrupt. I followed the steps online and since I was using the GOG downloader tool it said to try testing my hard drive for corruption and also a RAM memory test.

I ran the hard disk scan and sure enough it found some problems and it took several hours to complete, but I believe it was happy enough with itself that it booted back to Windows and things seem ok. I'm still having intermittent problems accessing certain folders on my computer, and so I'm not entirely convinced the hard disk problems have been fixed.

I haven't run the memory test yet but thats the next step.

I'm just writing to ask if anyone else is getting any kind of file corruption or Checksum errors when they go to download the game. If so then I'll try to download the game later when the files are fixed. If the files are fine and it's my computer then I will continue to analyse and attempt to fix my computer on my own.

Please get in touch if you have any information that can be useful.

I just tried my first GOG download ever and it was WC Privateer using the gog downloader and I got a similar "checksum error on chunk 2. please contact support!" message. Don't know if this helps, but just wanted to post that I got something "similar". I've not had issues with any other downloads before, so I'm hoping it's just something with gog.

Oddly enough I also had a checksum error while downloading Wing Commander IV. I downloaded the rest of the series just fine, so it was only this one I had a problem with. I have removed the download and the files it had downloaded, then started a re-download to see if that works. If not, I guess I will give customer support a try.
And as expected, another checksum error. Looks like I have no choice but to contact customer support.
Ok before I check in with customer support, I looked at the section before that and it seems there may be a solution. (3rd time is a charm as they say). If you go into the GOG Downloader settings, and switch the concurrent connections to 1 it may or may not stop the checksum file corruption.

"“Error on chunk X please contact support" (corrupt or interrupted downloads):
If you're experiencing this issue, please go into the Downloader's settings, limit the amount of concurrent downloads to 1, shut down the Downloader, and try downloading the game once more.
There are two possible reasons known to us:
1) The user's Internet connection is under stress and the Downloader is unable to request further file "chunks", after multiple attempts,
2) A part of a game's files is damaged on one of our mirrors. This is extremely rare, but we will refresh the suspected games across our CDN within a few hours after processing this support ticket.
If the problem persists after limiting the amount of concurrent downloads to 1, please contact Support - it might mean that we need to either reload the installer files on our file hosting servers, or re-generate their MD5 checksums."

Taken from the support page.

P.s, I really love this site :)
And indeed it worked like a charm. :) Downloaded with zero issues.
