Some of you may or may not be aware that Chris Roberts is coming back with another space sim caled Star Citizen.

True fans will recognice the carrier class "Bengal" stright away. As well as the system name and sector :) Those enemy fighters look very much like Kilrathi too.
MMO? No, thanks... :-/
Its got persistant world eventually, but at launch its mainly looking at being single player or private server multiplayer.
Very nice! :) , a pity i HATE mmo´s but for sure it will be better business for him than do a single player game. So I understand Roberts.
Wing Commander MMO? No thanks, I'd rather a proper sequel to Prophecy, or a HD remake of WC3, 4 and Prophecy.

It´s not exactly an MMO, as you can play it single or coop, but is clearly focused on multiplayer.

IT IS MMO! RSI guys are trying as much as possible not to name it MMO but sad truth is that FULL game is for MULTI-PLAYER ONLY (sic!).

Single-player part of the game (just PART!) is called "Squadron 42" and it's only one that can be played off-line. This part will be like WC1 style of a gameplay - no free roaming through universe like in Privateer/Freelancer.

Rumors (yes, rumors only) says that final game will allow to set "own server" for multi-player to play FULL Privateer like game. Well... but who or at least what will play NPCs? AFAIK multi-player requires other co-participants otherwise "universe" will be EMPTY...

If not (I mean AI NPCc will be available) then why not to make FULL single-player? Because of money! RSI wants to make BIG money taken from MMO players. Money for every upgrade from inpatient or just lazy players who want to "speed up" their progress. RSI are afraid that offering full off-line single-player could stop some of that money. IMHO it's stupid because there are many players (like me) who don't like any kind of multi-player (regardless their acronym name).

Time will show if I'm naive and my 60 $ will be wasted. Yes, I've pledged... after reading this info:

Sadly BIG numbers are DEAD for single player games related on PC, we consumers here on GOG.com are an exception. Big budget games for single player are actually on consoles, the public there still enjoy this games and pay for them.

But in consoles consumers in general are very simple minded (I have all consoles I´m talking in general no one feel offensed please, but is like this) there are no big market for "space sims" on people that just play COD mostly.

The problem is many PC players IMHO not pay for single player games on PC, piracy is rampant (of course not people here as we can see we´re paying for games without DRM)

So the result is I understand Roberts moved to multiplayer in PC, as is the only think that works in big numbers. Anyway i think as you, I´m not interested at all on multiplayer games, I only play BF3 on Xbox360 only because my friends play it, and we talk online, etc... and have fun.

But I dont play ANY online game that I have no other than my close personal (real life) friends playing with me. As I personally find annoying "socialize" on online gaming... peopleis mostly stupid and they mostly DESTROY the gameplay experience sooner or later...giving developers to tweak, fix, balance things... all the time.

And if it´s a stupid Free To Play game, even much more, as if you pay, you will always be better... and pay and pay and pay...

I love Gog.com because is the standar for the GOLDEN AGE of the PC, that in my opinion abandon us for big budget games long time ago (with very few exceptions like The Witcher games, and they didnt had "big" budget but at least the game is a Triple A)

Only thing that also survives in good condition on PC is the "indie" market.

So GOG.com fits perfecty both.

The following is what the Star Citizen website has to say about the MMO issue:

Is Star Citizen an MMO?

No! Star Citizen will take the best of all possible worlds, ranging from a permanent, persistent world similar to those found in MMOs to an offline, single player campaign like those found in the Wing Commander series. The game will include the option for private servers, like Freelancer, and will offer plenty of opportunities for players who are interested in modding the content. Unlike many games, none of these aspects is an afterthought: they all combine to form the core of the Star Citizen experience.
<end quote>

So we will get an new Wing Commander with private servers (I love that one!) and a full MMO on top of that. We will have to wait for two years, though...
