Ok, so I am aware that there's another topic on this... topic... already posted, and marked as "SOLVED", but none of the answers I found there were either simple or straightforward, so I figured out my own. However, in the interest of making my solution easier to find, I figured I would just post it to its own thread. This should simplify things as much as possible, and hopefully get more people enjoying this awesome expansion to one of my all-time favorite games!

So, here is THE SIMPLEST way to get Righteous Fire to work, and you don't even need to edit any .conf files to do it.

1) Go to Privateer's directory. The default SHOULD be "C:\GOG Games\Wing Commander Privateer"
2) Find the shortcut "Launch Wing Commander Privateer"
3) Right-click the shortcut, and select "copy".
4) PASTE the copy in the same exact directory. You should now have a shortcut called "Launch Wing Commander Privateer - Copy"
5) Right click on the new shortcut, and click "rename". Rename the shortcut whatever you wish. I recommend simply "Righteous Fire".
6) Right click on the renamed shortcut again, and click on "properties".
7) Find the "Target" field, and click on it. Scroll towards the end of the command until you see a part that says " "..\dosboxPRIV_single.conf". CHANGE this to "..\dosboxPRIV_RF.conf".
8) Click Apply.
9) Double Click on the edited shortcut.
10) Enjoy Righteous Fire!

Hope this helps. I tried to make this as simple to follow as possible, and I hope it helps many people discover the joys of this wonderful expansion! Especially after having erroneously posted a review of Privateer claiming that the game doesn't have the expansion... not really sure why GOG didn't include a shortcut for it. Happy Gaming!
Rightous Fire is already included, and preinstalled in the pack.

http://www.gog.com/game/wing_commander_privateer

"Are you determined enough to forge your own destiny? ○Includes the Wing Commander Privateer: Righteous Fire expansion.
○Customize your ship according to your needs and budget, modifying weapons, armor, and other systems
○Choose the life of a pirate, merchant, or mercenary. As long as you keep a couple of steps ahead of your enemies and a couple of bucks in the black, you’re a free agent
○Explore a vast universe with countless bases and planets spread out across dozens of systems. Adventure, trade, and exploration are limitless, even after you’ve finished the main game"

I'm confused what the point of your post is? Did they remove the Righteous Fire shortcut icon (it used to be installed in the "start" "programs" , "GOG.com", "Wing Commander:Privateer" folder)?

Just checked, the Rightous Fire button is still at:

start button" "all programs" , "GOG.com", "Wing Commander:Privateer" folder.

Baggins: That's wonderful, except that I didn't have any such shortcut. Are you using Windows 7? I had no shorcut or executable in Win8.1 until I created one myself. I wouldn't have wasted my time posting this otherwise. I guess I assumed that, since there's no shortcut in the Win8 "Start Menu"/Metro, there probably wasn't one on Win7, either. Guess I was wrong.
Windows 7 yes.

I don't know about windows 8. Did they do away with a start button? Or I guess it functions differently?

It functions differently. The Start Menu say replaced with the Metro interface that is pretty much a tablet UI. There is no longer a proper program list, but instead a haphazardly categorized "App List". As much as I seem to be complaining about Win8, I do actually like 8.1 better than 7 or Vista. It just takes a lot of getting used to, and the 8.1 update is virtually mandatory. Without it, the standard desktop is all but buried, and cannot be set as your default environment at startup, nor can you create custom categories in Metro.
Anyway, tl;dr: Windows 8 does not have a "proper" Start Menu with a proper Program Files tab.
