I know that this has been a topic here often, but this game gets updates very often right now and it sometimes is so far behind the steam version that you can not play on some servers. is there a way to improve the speed of this?
thanks for your work

I wish for the same. Since the Steam version has no DRM at all too, it could be solved with an updater that downloads the files from Steam.

I don't know if the GOG and Steam .exe files are different or not.

well the installer works differently and the ids are stored differently, don't forget that this is a multi platform game, GNU/Linux users, mac os users and windows users use different binaries. Aren said that they are still compatible but if you look at the changelog it is easy to understand that currently gog users can not take part in some community activities (can't start a nether raid biome for example)

I heard that the GOG has some problems with the Mac version, that is why they release slowly the new version. They always need to fix it. This is what Aren said when we played on the server.
