I'm working on my teams build, and i'm thinking of including a heavy weapons character. But, I'm concerned because most games severely restrict heavy weapons. Is there enough ammo in shops or as loot? Are heavy weapons easy enough to find, and can they deal adequate damage?

And how exactly should the build of a heavy weapons character be? so far, this is what I've got.

Coor: 5
Luck:1
Aware:4
Str:7
Speed:4
Int:6
Cha:1

Brute Force:2
Heavy weapons:1
Shtoguns:1
Demo:2

Based on my experience so far I'd say heavy weapons are too ammo-hungry to be viable as a weapon you'd use all the time, at least early on. They're quite useful to make the tougher fights easier though, as they can do a lot of damage.

Keep in mind that they use the same ammo as assault rifles, which are probably the strongest weapon type. So you don't want to waste all your 5.56 bullets (and 7.62 ones for later in the game) on heavy weapons.

As for availability, you will start with a heavy weapon if you put 1 point in the skill. While shops sell more than enough ammo, you'll have trouble actually affording it though if you use a lot .

It's worth noting that contrary to what the manual says, heavy weapons don't deal AoE damage, as they're all heavy machine guns and miniguns. There are rocket launchers in the game, but they're like grenades; usable once, and apparently not tied to any skills.
