I can't find the secret door leading to where Ace is being held captive. I've watched a walkthrough and I am in the right area (with the wrap-around desk) but my characters don't see anything.

Same problem with the safe. I got the combination from the triplets but can't find the safe to use it. Is there some skill I need to use or something? I can continue the game without Ace and the safe, but I'd prefer to get them since I've cleared the building out.

I think it may be a matter of luck. At least in the case of the safe, you need to make a successful check to find it when you stand on the space in front of it (automatic check done by the game). Just stand on the space and keep on pressing Esc until you finally see it.

I don't recall any difficulty with finding the stairs down to Ace though, from what I recall you just step on the space and are automatically taken downstairs. Maybe try leaving and re-entering the hideout then check the stairs again? Or try the Esc trick here too.

Since this portion was not far into the game, I created a new party and started over. This time I made sure I had a character with at least 2 Perception and one with Disarm Bomb so I could save the Mayor's wife. With these additions finding the hidden door was automatic. The safe didn't appear but I am going to try your ESC trick when I play tomorrow! Thanks for the helpful reply!
