I'm planning my party and seems like completely ditching Charisma and Leadership skills would significantly help with my preferred builds cause I don't know where to squeeze them. If I decide to play without recruiting NPC's:

Will I likely struggle a lot? For how big parties is this game optimized? Is 4 good enough or should I aim for 6-7? I'm not looking for overly challenging gameplay.

Will I miss anything like companions quests (XP) or other goodies not available other way? (Only tangible benefits, not talking about things like personalities, dialogs, banters etc.).

(I assume we're talking about WL2DC)
Speaking for myself, I always hate NPCs so I played through the entire game without ever recruiting a single one. I played on "Seasoned" difficulty with four rangers and found the game very easy nevertheless.

Yes yes, W2DC.

Thanks for insight, I'm usually not a fan of recruitable team members either.

The game will be very easy no matter what, but you will almost certainly miss out on a bunch of optional stuff: unique items, and unique ways to complete quests (using unique items, often giving a unique item/bonus). If you don't care about any of that then just dump CHA entirely and never bother recruiting anyone.
play how ever you like. Usually I get my full spectrum of skills off my 4 guys and Rose from AG who is my healer/scientist. The last couple people are just extra firepower.

But if you make 1 combat character and 3 support guys, you can probably cover the spectrum of skills very easily. Have 2 of them snipers, 2 of them assault rifles, no biggie.
