Well with XCOM 2 being delayed to February, I was trying to think of games to scratch the turn based strategy itch until then and realized I still hadn't really started Wasteland 2. Thing is, the DC is coming out in October, so, should I just wait until then before even starting up a game?

The DC looks much better (character development system, graphics, voice-over, ...) and is our in 1.5 month, so I would wait if I were you.

But you can play the "core game" if you want it's already very nice (finished it twice already).

If you want a turn-based game to play before... what about Shadowrun Hong Kong (or any of the previous SR if you didn't play them yet)? ;)

If you want a turn-based game, you might want to also check out Pools of Radiance and the other games in the Forgotton Realms Archive Collection 2.

Also, there's the original Wasteland if you haven't yet played it.

I have played SR and Shadowrun Dragonfall DC, the latter was my GOTY last year. I was considering getting Hong Kong. Maybe I'll pick it up after I'm done with MGS V Phantom Pain.

Expanding kilobug's answer.

The Wasteland DC and the Wasteland 2 original edition will be two separated games (Though only the former will be updated in the future).

So, you can begin to play as is now, and later try the Director Cut (Remember, the upgrade will be free for anyone who has already the original version)

Warning! Save game files from original W2 will not work with new W2 DC...

Yeah, is true, I forget to mention that, but that is part of being two separated games :P
I would definitely recommend going ahead and playing Wasteland 2 RIGHT NOW. First of all, it's one of the best RPGs I've played, and one of the games that I will replay someday (probably sooner rather than later) once I finish it the first time. I don't replay a lot (no time) but certain games get a replay, and this will be one of them (I'll do my replay in the DC, while my first playthrough is through the normal version.) Second, the DC with all its new features and updated engine will be glitchy, and it will probably be best to wait until at least 2 patches for the DC have been released to get a better experience, so, while the DC is out in October, you might want to push back playing it anyway. Thirdly, it's really frikken great and if the DC improves it it will be quite something to have experienced the original edition and then re-experience the new version, I don't think I'd like doing this in almost any game, but this one, yes, I will! PLAY NOW!
I got a bit half-way through the game and fell into a slump in California and haven't got back to it yet.

Now with the update coming through next month, I'll just wait. Overall a good game, but I'm hoping the DC will tie up some of the issues had about the game. I'm hoping for a bit more polish.
I think I will wait for the Cut and restart fresh.
