Im looking for a rpg like fallout and underrail, is this game it? I usually just go solo or is that possible here. Do I need to create party.
It nothing like Fallout 1/2 in my opinion... it's better :)!

You can't really go solo, It would be virtually impossible to complete that way, you really need to create a party of 4 rangers. It has been done with 1PC + NPCs (as a challenge), but that makes it needlessly difficult (NPCs sometimes disobey your commands!)

Can I create a party of 1 tank (armor class heavy) and 1 damage dealer or do I really need 3 characters? Ive gotten through Legacy and Avernum series with 2 man parties if that makes a difference. Although I dont know which is harder.

I haven't played Legacy or Avernum, so I cannot comment on those directly. There are some really tough areas in Wasteland, I think you really need 4 armed-to-the-teeth Rangers to survive. Even then, you'll often have one or more Rangers wounded in combat who need healing mid-combat to continue on fighting. I think most people recruit NPCs too for increased firepower (you can have 7 characters total, maximum 4 PCs), but personally I dislike NPCs and do the whole game with 4 PCs.

Well Avernum is a very VERY tough game series. There are 3 endings in the game and each is tough. I completed the hardest ending with a group of 3 characters when you are supposed to have 4 on first try. It was tough and I got by on luck and determination.

If that being the case, would it be hard to say 3 characters would do alright? 3 made characters?

I would also care to know if you can make a tank that uses melee weapons or are you forced to use guns ALL the time. It would be cool if 2 characters use guns and 1 uses melee or something like that. Thanks for your help by the way. I cant find enough party based games.

You could certainly try with three characters, it would be a challenge but certainly do-able I think.

Melee is actually a bit broken in Wasteland, the best build is actually to take the Brawling skill for your characters (or even 2-3 ranks at the start if you can afford it) and do almost exclusively melee combat with brawling weapons (club, ax, chainsaw), because enemies defeated in melee gives you twice the XP as compared to ranged combat, and increased Brawling skill gives you multiple attacks. You'll still need one or two characters who can use guns (assault rifles and energy weapons) for those few encounters which are Brawl-proof.

When I play I normally make all-Brawling parties, for a change (and more of a challenge) I sometimes will do a "no Brawling" party and rely exclusively on guns.

Not necessarily, as long as you have gambling and climbing as skills it's incredibly easy to get Pseudochitin Armor that negates any damage through the first four-fifths of the game and max out your level to give you enough CON to outlast any damage you take on your raid of the Guardian's base to get the armor for the final fifth of the game.

LOL, I was debating whether to write "impossible" because I knew that if I did someone would be sure to speak up :D!

But in the normal course of play, you're not going to get such armour unless you know specifically/exactly what you are doing (including grinding XP by climbing to gain HP).

The hintbook practically screams at you to grind XP by swimming, why wouldn't you apply that to the shifting sand dunes in normal play?

It's not rocket science, you just find a dune and climb. When you fall down, climb back up. That and grinding perception on certain skylights should give you more than enough CON to make it to a certain basement where you can just set something heavy on an arrow key and go do something else for several hours.
This is an old thread, but in case anybody is reading it thinking you can "solo" this game, you can't. You have to have a minimum of 4 characters to finish a particular puzzle at the end of the game. It can be 1 player character, and 3 hires later on, but you must have 4. There are other puzzles in the game that require more than one character as well.

You also need to forget this concept of "tank", since it doesn't apply to this game. All of your characters must be proficient in at least one weapon class, and have the best armour they can get their hands on.
RIght, you are correct about the impossibility of fully completing the game solo for the final puzzle. However, I think the minimum to complete the final puzzle is actually 2:

***MINOR SPOILER ALERT***
1 to stay in the computer room and use Electronics to open and close the doors, and the other to run around with the keys. I have never tried this myself to confirm it though.
****END SPOILER***

But yes, game was certainly designed for it to be completed with 4 or more characters.
*** Spoiler ***

During the final sequence, the key room doors seal shut, which means you must have a player already in each room to enter the appropriate code.
****Spoiler****
If you use electronics on the computer, it will re-open the doors after they have been sealed without stopping the countdown.
Ah, you're right, I didn't know you could do that!

Playing through this game with 2 players would be extremely frustrating. You'd be limited to the carry capacity of 2 players, which means you'd always be low on ammo. Plus with characters going unconscious or worse frequently, your chances of revival through the doctor skill would be drastically reduced. It would really boil down to luck and how often you were willing to reload after dying in battle over and over again.
Yup, I totally agree with you :)!
