So I get into a fight I can't win...but I also can't flee? The run option gives me directions to go in, but selecting ANY of these brings me right back into the fight. How do I actually flee fights?

Also, I'm not playing the remastered/remade game.

*Edit*

I think I understand the running mechanic a bit more now. I was in a cave and I realised run meant move a square on the map. But I was boxed in. Now outside I am being chased using the run command, I guess there is space for it now.

the basic mechanics for ending combat as per my observations have many factors
there may also be scripted encounters that break these general "rules" that i have deduced from playing the game many times

1 do either party have loaded ranged weapons equipped
if both groups are melee or have ranged weapons that have no ammo left AND are at least 20' distance
combat ends

2 are you in sight range of each other
if neither party can see each other
or if the only party with sight of the other is melee only then combat ends

3 is there line of sight between you and the enemy party
if no line of sight at end of a round then combat ends

hopefully this may be of use to you
Yeah, I think I have it now, thanks. I ended up in a couple chases again and managed to outrun them. At first it wasn't too clear what was going on, and they don't seem to give up too easily, felt like it was brining my back into the fight but I see now that it wasn't necessarily. I was being chased by a few lizards and then a few rats, managed to get away from a gunman in Quartz as well, and yeah I was getting shot.

Worth noting one strange consequence of these rules:
* If you are fighting a high HP enemy that has only melee attacks from a distance, and you have everyone go full auto, then you won't have any loaded guns at the end of the round. This means that the game will end combat at this point, even if the enemy is still alive. Unfortunately, this is not a good situation; assuming the enemy is still alive, it will recover to full health, as the game doesn't track enemy HP outside of combat, so you just wasted all that ammo for nothing.
Oh that's good to know! Thanks for that.
