i have a copy of warlords 4. i think warlords 3 is better if it's any consolation

I have a WIN XP Laptop where I play both Warlords 3 & 4. However, Warlords III is the Best in the series Overall.
You can buy a used copy of warlords 4 on eBay.

I have Warlords 4. I would love to get it going on my Windows XP, but on install, it stalls and the install doesn't complete. Any ideas on how to get it installed?

Hard to say what the problem is. I don't have Warlords 4, but if it's a similar problem to the one I had with Reign of Heroes, try the instruction in this link:
