Hello fellow warlords..
I am so happy that gog gave us the chance to play this amazing game..As my gaming experience coming from the golden era of the 90's unfortunately I have n't been exposed to this gem as I have with other games as the classics homm ,age of wonders, disciples ... I find things at warlord series that I was missing on the other games and making it as a favorite among the fantasy turn based ones.
Anyway enough with that intro,I wanted to ask as I am not so keen with these series mechanics ,I started playing the dwarven campaign in Warlords 3 Dark Lords Rising (the one the dwarves start to reclaim their kingdom from the gnolls following the events of Bane's fall)..I beat the first epic scenario but realized that the AI could build instantly stacks of high tier units in one instant turn at their one standing castle, how is that possible? The gnolls were at frenzy status with me in the diplomacy screen maybe that turned them to overproduce ? (that's silly ) .. They had one castle standing and with a two units guarding it raised at a eight or more unit stack with ogres ,gnoll crossbows sending it to attack me..(managed to kill some stacks of mine !)
Though I am amazed by how the gnolls sent an army with their ships to strike my undefended castles at back of my line by sea ..
Continuing now to send my upgraded dwarven legions to reclaim their forgotten halls in scenario two ,echoing their battlecries along the caves terrifying the greenskins!

WIII DLR is my top tbs fantasy game as well. If you give me the name of the scenario in that campaign, I may be able to give you some tips.

Thank you athineos ..I am playing the Drak Dum (if I remember correctly) campaign with the dwarves ,I reached already the third scenario of the four..The first mission gave me a headache at some point as the ai have the tendency to spam stacks and heroes from just one standing city ,that could be impossible as there are no cities around to support..I noticed that on the second scenario too but I managed to obliterate the whole oposition rather quick ..For example an enemy city have just one unit to guard it and suddenly when I approach sometimes it could emerge an eight unit stack and a hero..Maybe I have limited scout capabilities and don't have the correct info..

edit:Currently I am at the scenario "deeps of Drak Dum" ..I have an undead faction at my door the gnolls are up away and facing a dragons faction that is away too up to north ,that's a relief..Any tip for this map would be appreciated..
Thank you

SCENARIO 3 - DEEPS OF DRAK-DUM

OK. The most important thing here is to stay on good terms with the Dragons (in the Northeast ) for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. They have very powerful Troops. Offer them alliance, bribes, to keep them pacified.
1. Charge up the center hallway to the neutral Hall of Armor. Send two hero-led stacks to reduce exploration time. After that area is secured, send one hero east down the next passage. Make him go straight for Jailer and then go for the 4 unexplored cells full of good stuff. Send the other hero North to fight the Gnolls. If you have a third hero, send him west to conquer Eastcrypt then build forces there to get ready to fight the Spirits. Try to send your Newest Hero down the east passage from Crossroads to conquer the Five homes. Produce there Dwarf Infantry or Griffons (if you can afford it)

2. LATER TURNS
The Dragons in the Southwest will likely move south to the Jailer area. If you can slay their hero, head north and take their Citadel. Otherwise, focus your offensive against the Spirits and Gnolls.

I hope that helps. Have fun!

That will be handy ,these instructions are almost the same as my starting planning..I have four heroes and sent them in every direction..The spirits will be a really thorn by my side if i ll let them grow and the dragons must be pacified as you say..
Thanks for the guide

For your original question, the AI makes heavy use of the 'vectoring' game mechanic. So it might have vectored units produced in other cities to their last one. There's a two turn delay before units show up in the destination city when they're vectored, so even if you took the producing cities in previous turns, it's still possible for multiple units to show up in a single city that way.

Another possibility is that the AI got the opportunity to hire mercenaries.

Thank you ! Yeah I think the AI used mercenaries as at that point didn't own so many cities and I think vectoring is getting canceled if the production source is lost ( at least for the human player ).Amazing game ,completed the campaign already..and playing most warlords 2 right now that is an awesome game too even for todays standards.
