So thanks to Low_K I got the editor for Warlords II Deluxe to work and I've begun working on a Dune themed scenario. It will be the first in a series, I hope. I’m already thinking about making a WW2 themed, scenario, a Middle Earth scenario, and a scenario set in London’s Whitechapel district in 1888. :)
It is set on a desert map, which means that "hills" become "desert" and are hard to traverse. Certain units that are specialized in moving through sand will have a much easier time, such as Fremen and the great Shai-Hulud, while others have to rely (i.e. heavy troopers and other infantry) on dune buggies, scouts, and carryalls to quickly move them through the desert.
I've mainly used the Dune board game map as a reference to create the scenario's map. For units and cities I've taken inspiration from David Lynch's 1984 movie, and the 1992 Dune 2 game. For everything else I've tried to stick as close to Frank Herbert's novels as I can.
Currently the scenario includes:
-60 cities - these are all uniquely named and all have full descriptions, and include sietches, strongholds, villages, smuggling bases, etc.
-8 factions - House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, Bene Gesserit, Bene Tleilax, Spacing Guild, Spice Smugglers, Fremen
-A full custom map of the northern hemisphere of Arrakis, centered around the polar sink
-Custom shields that bear the actual faction symbols (Red falcon for Atreides, golden lion for Corrino, etc.)
-A complete set of custom units:
*Penal Troop (cheap, quick to train, weak and slow)
*Light Troop (average speed, weak, quick to train, fairly cheap)
*Heavy Troop (average price, speed, and strength)
*Ghola (more expensive but quicker to train heavy troop)
*House Guard (stronger heavy troop, city bonus)
*Sardaukar (stronger heavy troop, fortification bonus)
*Sardaukar Elite (better version of Sardaukar)
*Fedaykin (faster than Sardaukar, roughly same strength when in desert tile)
*Fremen Naib (improved Feydakin)
*Reverend Sister (cancels unit bonus)
*Reverend Mother (cancels unit bonus, improved sister)
*Carryall (can fly)
*Ornithopter (can fly, tougher than carryall)
*Dune Buggy (fast, desert bonus)
*Light Tank (average speed, desert bonus, reduces enemy stack)
*Combat Tank (similar to light tank but stronger and slightly slower)
*Siege Tank (similar to combat tank but siege bonus against cities)
*Devastator Tank (slow, very powerful)
*Guild Navigator (3rd stage) (slow, very powerful when in city)
*Gom Jabbar Assassin (fast, strong, reduces hero bonus)
*Dune Militia (more expensive light troop, ally)
*Ordos Mercenary (fun reference to Dune's non-canon Ordos faction, stronger than Dune Militia)
*Mentat (stronger Assassin)
*Kwisatz Haderach (you’ll see! ;) )
-Unique leader names – each faction has eight unique leaders
-39 custom Dune themed items
-Custom Dune themed “monsters” at ruins
Some units cannot be bought and can only be trained at specific sites (cities). Such as Shai-Hulud, which can only be trained at a wormsign site. Or Fedaykin that can only be created at a Fremen sietch. And Ghola that can only be made at the Tleilaxu Axlotl tanks. Also Reverend sisters and mothers that can only be trained at a Bene Gesserit Proctor school.
There’s a lot of flavour text poured into the scenario, and as many graphics as possible have been replaced with custom ones. Only the desert tile set is still the default game one. But it fits perfectly!
I expect to have the scenario done soon. I will upload it when it is ready.
