The game starts fine, i can work with it just fine till selection of units for the mission. After i select whatever i want and click to continue to the actual map, it just crashes to desktop with the above error. It's annoying that i can't play this game becaue i bought it for netbook because i don't need optical drive to install it. And now i can't play it at all. :(

I feel like a fool now. Reinstalled the game for the 3rd time and now its not crashing anymore. And i haven't changed anything else, it just started working fine now out of the blue.
Apparently this isn't resolved. It's crashing again for no reason.
So I assume you've tried wacking every detail in the options down to the lowest?

Failing that then there's little more information to work with. Make sure you log a support request asap, GOG are not the quickest at responding to them.
I've sent dxdiag info to the GOG support as they requested but i think i've already found the problem.

The reason for this crashing is connected to the fact that there are 2 screen resolution settings. One in the main settings and another under the campaign screen (where you see the map with missions, top status bar drop down menu). Netbook only supports 1024x600 and i do have 800x600 set in the main settings. But if the settings in the campaign map are set to anything more than 800x600, the game will simply crash when you should actually start playing.

These tw settings really have to be connected. If you change one, another should also change to the same value. Otherwise you get this crashing mess. This is especially annoying since i transfer save data between PC and netbook and each uses its own resolution. And each time i transfer the profile from PC to netbook, the game is crashing. Or if i use an external screen.

So the game works if you play on 800x600?
Yeah. Like i said, the problem is that the game has screen resolution settings in two separate menus and both settings apparently aren't connected. You have to adjust both by hand. The second problem is that the game doesn't automatically detect what's the max possible screen resolution. For example, when i installed WBC3, screen resolution was (by default) set to 1280x1024 even though netbook only goes up to 1024x600. If the set screen resolution is higher than what screen can hadnle, the game simply crashes when it should load the actual playable map with units on it.
How do i know this is it? I've manually forced 1280x1024 on my netbook which caused screen to scroll in all directions, but the game stopped crashing. Changed both screen resolutions to 800x600, removed the forced 1280x1024 resolution in Windows and switched back to native 1024x600 (without any screen scrolling). The game is not crashing anymore. So my crashing problem is directly connected to the selected resolution.

If GOG team can fix this they have to do the following:
- connect both screen resolution settings so if you change one of them, they both have to get set to the same value
- proper max screen resolutiion detection

I hope that this will get fixed because i love the game but this bug makes it really hard to take the hero profile between computers and play wherever i am (PC or netbook).
