I used to have this game on Windows XP, but when migrating to windows 7 it stopped working, Now I have it back because I bought it from GOG, but I can't get my old heroes back :( I saved on a hard drive the WBCIII folder that goes on My Documents, but I have tried pasting those files, even the entire folder and it does not work.

Any help? Which specific files should I need?

Yeah, other people have had issues either manipulating or just restoring hero data. From what I could tell, the HeroData.xcr (possibly .scr - can't remember) file is the main one. However all my attempts at screwing with this failed. I've a feeling they have deliberately made it tamper proof by customising it to either the machine name, or perhaps some kind of timestamp. I couldn't get a straight swap to work either.

Also, where have you installed to? If you've put it in program files, and have UAC turned on then there may be some other files hidden away, however I'm pretty sure WBC was one of the early games to start adhering to the whole "don't write to program files" thing.

It's a long shot, but you might try making sure the computer name is the same now as it was when you played before on XP. If I remember right, DarkStone was another game like this. I had to rename my new computer the same name as my old one for the files to work. I don't have my old files from when I played off the hard copy to test this, but if nothing else, you might try contacting someone from those cheat sites that have "godly" character files for you to download. Maybe they know a way?
