I'm just curious. Does the GOG version here have the random crashing to the desktop like the original copy does? Or has this been fixed with an unofficial patch? I'm sure anyone with the original copy knows what I'm talking about. At the end of the battle, when it would take you to the scoreboard it would just simply crash and close out to the desktop. Sometimes even right in the middle of battle. I always loved the WBC series, I just hated the constant crashing. Thanks for any input on this.

I agree, there is still an issue with this game

I concur, still random crashes, even in the midst of battle with no spell casting.

caden636: mine crashes religously whilst trying to start any map. ive deleted reinstall delete reinstall no worky and i like it better than wbc3
Yeah, this was happening to me until I changed the in-game resolution back down. Seems it can't handle the higher two options on Win7, so it just crashes. 600x800 works fine, but so does the next one up, 1024x680 or whatever is it. The two higher settings (1200x1600 and whatever the other one is) will cause the game to crash when you attempt to start a map.

Unfortunate, but not a total showstopper.

drodriguez83: Same here, Win7 x64 Ultimate, everything updated (Windows, vga drivers, DirectX), crashes upon opening spell book. Compatibility mode not helping.

Anyone try contacting gog for a refund since it clearly doesn't work in Win 7?
I contacted them and after 2 iterations when I tried the game to work (and unfortunatelly it didn't) they allowed me to choose any game at the same price as WBC3. Of course they removed WBC3 from my game list.
My game crashed every time I clicked on the first Island. Lowering the resolution to 800x600 worked for me. Just played through the first Island and 10 min on the second one before it crashed. Sucks with the low resolution, but better than not be able to play at all. The two higher resolutions crashes the game.

Running Vista 64bit
I'm using win 7, the same problem happened to me as you say. Is there a solution for this?

I've not experienced the problem, or heard of any solution. However it sounds as though there's some progress for people by lowering resolutions. What sometimes helps in games where this is a problem is that prior to playing the game, set your desktop resolution to the same setting as the game resolution.

It's just a guess, but I've known it help people in several different games where there are random crashes.
Can we get this unmarked as solved? Because I just bought and DLed and can testify that is is far from solved. (I am running windows7 64bit) I get crashes to desktop about 25% of the time I open the spell book.
I have tried many things, including changing the resolutions so they all match, running in different compatibility modes etc... Nothing seems to prevent the crash, though running in xpsp3 compatibility at 1280x768 resolution (for my desktop, the game menu, and the campaign menu) seems to help a little... but it might just be placebo...

Some more testing iteration done and here's the current status :
Running it under Linux using Wine (Crossover or PlayonLinux) and proper settings does a better job for stability than anything Windows 7 could.
Anyway best solutions I found to get a stable game with no glitches so far is to run it in a WinXP VM (Virtualbox running on Ubuntu 13.10 64bits).
2D hardware acceleration has to be enabled and VM MUST be running full-screen else game would not even start.
It-is-NOT-SOLVED.
definitively NOT solved....
"Crashes Fixed? SOLVED"

That would be a "NO."

Wine, 32Bit Linux, crash.
Wine, 64Bit Linux, crash.
Windows XP SP3, crash.
Windows 7 SP1, crash.

Other items on above:
Base game off CD.
CD game various patches.
CD game with Daemon Tools (Windows)
CD game with No-CD fix
GOG version before all the mods.
GOG version with all the mods. (Current.)
Various resolutions (In game and with OS/Wine settings.)

The game (in my case) seems to take special exception to Knight Summoners.
(Added as an additional Hero, or as a fresh Hero. The game becomes useless around level 6.)
Also AMD Vid Card (5450 upped to 6670) on WinXP, various nVidia (8400, 9600GT, 9800GTX+, & 250GTS) on Linux/Win7.

my game crash when trying to cast a spell during combat :(
I can confirm that this still crashes.

I just bought it a couple of days ago and it crashes to desktop when I destroy some towers or if I win the level. I have tried the suggested resolution/compatibility fixes but I still have the same issues.

Running Windows 7 64bit, i7 CPU, 8GB RAM.

I would love to see this game fixed.
Just found this game again. Same problem got the game 2 days ago. I downgrade the graphics as much as i can but it still crashes. Windows 8 64bit but i tried to play it on 7 as well same problem.
