d3vilsadvocate: Unfortunately the AI in this game is beyond redemption. I've never played a strategy game where the AI is this bad. My units are litterally running in all directions despite the one I've ordered them to walk towards to.

It's probably significant part of the infamous difficulty of this game. But it doesn't really make the game very enjoyable.
Unit will disobey orders if you have unit AI turned on, there is a little brain on the banner if you turn it off they will do as you say with no regards for their lives. Yet if you have it turned on and you tell your archers to engage a target in hand to hand they are more than likely to change their movement and walk away if any other enemy units are near.

If you toggle the AI off you will have to manually change the direction your archers are facing, if they walk out of their field of vision and AI is turned off they will just sit there doing nothing, with AI turned on your archers will turn around and keep shooting (just as long as they are safe).
Just finished the game. And my god, it was frustrating. The ending was also rather anti-climatic... The last few battles (including the final battles) did not feel like a challenge at all. Once you get the elven archers and the great cannon combined with leveled up allor, the enemy has no chance to approach you. Actually, the most difficult were the missions between rescuing Ceridan and then getting to Zhufbar.

But my god. The game can make you go mad. Sometimes things go so wrong that you don't know whether you should cry or laugh... Also, in terms of mechanics it really makes you appreciate Dark Omen. Took me half a game to figure out how to cast a spell with the wizard (he kept failing to cast a spell all the time).

Overall, enjoyable game, especially once you figure out how to deal with it. But would not recommend to everyone.
Best game ever made, hands down
