The scanner is a pain to use, but it can give you an accurate location of all opponents:
There are graduations on both axis (every 5, and big ones every 10).
This makes it possible to throw grenades before you can see the opponent to remove overwatch.
However, note that 100% accurate AoE attacks are misleading. For some reason, there is a chance the attack will scatter (maybe because the preview for AoE is less accurate than for direct fire?).
Another way to bypasse overwatch is to use the displacement power:
It won't trigger overwatch by itself, but your next action will, so you'd better make sure you hit all the opponents who were waiting for you.
The last way is the classic use of smoke: it will dissipate before your turn, and not the turn of the opponent, so you will always be the first one able to shoot after smoke.
Running reduces accuracy, but not if you run, then walk for the last tiles (the last 2 work, but maybe the last one is enough?).
You need to take at least 3 bolter marines on each mission. You don't want to issue bolters to mighty heroes. If playing mighty hero, it is better to just use marines with poor stats except for HP and toughness, and use them to eat overwatch fire when you don't have a good option to avoid it.
On some missions, you may find some equipment on the way, making it viable to take a tactical Squad (and issue bolters to good marines if you plan to swap their loadouts).
