Yet again a game released without a functioning windowed mode.

Is it really that hard to achieve?

In a word: yes.

You could get the game to run "windowed" by running it "fullscreen" inside a virtual machine and running the virtual machine itself windowed.

Yes I know I can do that but it seems pretty heavy handed.
