Lancelight: If you find yourself thinking about how best to use a gryphon/dragon at all, you might as well click "Surrender" because you've already lost. No real player is going to use these units in a competitive game unless they are 1. Playing vs a noob, or 2. Already won the game because of #1. These units are to easily killed to be of any use and are EXTREMELY slow. And yes, they kill your own units if you dont know what you're doing. There are maps where "air" is the main point of the game, but absolutely none of them came with the game or any of it's expansions. These units should never have been put into the game because new players often times think they are "the best" simply because they cost the most and that just isnt right. So dont feel bad that you were wondering how to use them. All noobs fall into this trap at some point. There are situations (very few and far between) where these air units can be useful, but they are so advanced it would be near impossible to explain them to someone who's completely new.
As for "tier 4" anything, there is no such thing in War2. And there are not "4 tiers" anyway. There are only 3, hall, hold, and fort. And they are not numbered tiers, they are game stages (because war2 doesnt have tiers). These "tiers" correspond to the town hall upgrade as that is what controls all the tiered units if thats what you want to call them. IE: You can only make dragons at "fort stage" which real war2 players will refer to as "Late game". IE: "Damn man, you're late game is horrid! All you made were drags LMFAO". What they are saying is that you made the wrong units for the late game stage (for stage, or if you want to call it a tier, which sounds stupid, Tier 3). No one in War2 calls them "tiers".
Early game == Hall stage (Can make "Tier 1" units)
Mid game == Hold stage (Can make "Tier 2" units)
Late game == Fort stage (Can make "Tier 3" units)
So as a new player, just never make a single gryphon/dragon and you'll improve your game by about 80% just by ignoring these highly situational units.
Thanks! I didn't know that. I just remembered massing them on fastest maps. Do pro players play those? Are they still around? I can't see for myself because I can't log in to B-Net.
