People use Wargus on PC as it offers higher resolutiins compared to the original game, which blizzard still hasn't added to the battle.net or even the GOG version that just dropped
Also Wargus 2.1. This version most closely resembles the original game with the way the A.I works, the screen fades and layouts in the main screen menu when you start the game. I only wish they made adding other resolutions easier like they have in the newer versions.
The newer versions from 2.2 and up until 2.3 were buggy - some units stipped working properly, some animations didn't work at all, colorcyling worked on the summer tileset only and the whole game was made to look simpler, as the devs began working on bos wars and added those features to the stratagus engine and also stripped out alot of the wargus specific scripts which took away all the slider and checkbox artwork from wargus.
I went and re-added those script peices for the artwork and also sorted out the color cycling for each of the tilesets in wargus to better resemble the original game. I also added in the borders around the side buttons in the engine code.
I have been (probably) a thorn in the side of the devs, asking for all the warcraft features to be put back into the engine, and I am fine with that because I love stratagus and wargus because I can play warcraft 2 in high res finally.
Blizzard with their closed-minded attitude towards making their games higher resolution so the player can see more being against gameplay protocol is stupid. Thinking it will disrupt the mechanics of the game is completely arrogant. It would cause more people to play it, even if the way the game plays is outdated compared to today's rts games.
