So I notice the installer tries to install nvidia physx onto my system, and uh, well I have an AMD GPU. I also notice it doesn't launch without this. Is there any way around this or should I play this on my laptop?

Nvidia PhysX runs using your CPU if you do not have a compatible GPU. Just let it install and accept that some graphics settings will not be available.
