Hidy ho all,

I picked up this game a while back, and only started getting into it. I ran into my first comabt expereince, and got absolutely killed. The tutorial said just hit it with color, but I unloaded all my gold color at it (had half the container filled up) and just died. So, how does one do combat in this game?

Second, how do you save in this game? Odd question, I know. But still, I couldn't figure out how to save my progress.

Late reply, but hopefully still helpful. By first combat do you mean fighting the predators that roam the chambers of the sisters? Those shouldn't take half a heart to kill so you're probably not landing good hits. Get in range, press left Ctrl and then 'paint' on the enemy of choice. More colour means more damage. If they're close enough to kill you then they should be more than close enough to hit. You can tell if your attack hits if a splash-like sound is played. Additionally, put emerald in your hearts for increased defence and crimson for increased offence. Later on you'll get glyphs that provide more powerful attacks.

As for saving, you can only save in the void - outside the chambers. It's the button at the top right of the start menu that is greyed out when you're in a chamber.

Late reply is better than no reply.

What is the range of attacks? I'm asking because, i'm trying to face down the first predator you meet. And I couldn't seem to kill it. It frustrated me enough to make me put the game down for a wile. But, once I can attack, I might pick it up again.

It might be easier to show it: here's the point in a youtube video where someone kills a flyer in one the first chambers Those are fairly weak, so if you're hitting it then around 20-30 color should be enough to kill it easily, which is why it sounds like what happened was that you were either missing it or applying color in a way that didn't count as an attack. Does that help?
I've had this game for ages and tried to play it countless times. I love the idea of it, the atmosphere etc etc...and I keep dying over and over and over.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled a multitude of times to give it another go and will continue doing so, because it's a great game, but I just suck at it.

*Sigh* I may have to break my own code and read a walkthrough or something eventually but I detest doing things like that. I'll give it a couple more tries and have to be absolutely desperate before I do though.

Anyway, great game as I said. I'm not being sarcastic either ...it's my fault that I suck at it LOL. )

When it comes to this game, no one's going to think less of you if you want to use one of the difficulty patches. Especially if the intent is more you wanting to experience the game overall and less about you wanting to see how far you can test your limit for punishment over making a single miscalculation with your color.

Very cool and very nice. Thank you both for the replies.

I'll not be using the patches as I'd rather play the game as intended, however, reading through the links made me realize that doing a bit of research before my next play through would be a really good idea.
Color management is such an integral part of the game that having full knowledge of how it should be used instead of the "Just keep trying different ways" approach I've used so far....and failed at over and over again. :)
