I can't remember why I bought this game, but I installed it today to give it a shot. Holy mother of crap. I have never in my life seen a game so insanely complex, with hundreds of screens, options and stuff to manage. This doesn't strike me as a game, but as work that I'm not being paid for. I went in expecting some kind of tutorial like most games have, but I found nothing. Come on. Games with one tenth of this level of complexity have tutorials for beginners. I downloaded the manuals, but it's kind of hard to reference a pdf when you're trying to play the game on the same machine. I ended up uninstalling and moving it to the bottom of my bookshelf with the other mistakes I've bought on GoG. I may give it a shot one day, but I need something to get started because right now I have no idea how. Any suggestions.

Probably to late to your request, and you found already something, but you can find some guides here:

http://www.paradoxian.org/vickywiki/index.php/Main_Page

especially in the Assorted Guides thread.

Unfortunately, I was not able to find any more detailed information compared to other Paradox games, but I hope this helps little bit.

enjoy.

Thank you for that. I haven't touched the game since my original post, but maybe I'll read up and look into it again.
Coming in late, but the guide on the web link that MMLN provided regarding playing as Brazil in the Grand Campaign is perfect for breaking one into playing Victoria. Brazil has profound potential. What makes Brazil easy for beginners is that the Great Powers could care less about you (no wars or invasions) and your neighbors are a joke. You have plenty of time to focus on the mechanics of the game and both building up your economy and working on tech upgrades.
This is exactly what I did, played as Brazil with the help of the walk through, and I'm learning the game. I still haven't decided if this is fun or if I'm challenged by the (steep) learning curve. I'm looking to finish this scenario and try China next so I don't have the same population constraints that Brazil presents.
