This tip made the game SO much better for me.
Basically, go to your Venetica data folder - which is where your save games and settings are - on Windows this should be <HomeDirectory>\Documents\Venetica
Then edit the settings-user.ini file, and search for the skill_bar_dynamic setting, and set this to true, e.g.:
// flag indicating whether the skill bar will store a different skill set per weapon type
skill_bar_dynamic = true
What this does, is split your skill bar in half: the second half contains skills that are available irrespective of weapon, while the first half contains skills pertaining to the currently-equipped weapon only.
That way, when you switch weapons, you'll automatically have all the skills pertaining to that weapon (at least as many as can fit on that half of the bar, anyway).
As a further tip, I've found it useful to map the right mouse button to the "special action", i.e. the skill by itself on the very left of the skill bar - and then set this skill to the "blocking" skill for that particular weapon (this skill also becomes weapon-dependent with the dynamic skill bar).
This has made the game SO much better for me, as this way one can easily switch weapons mid-combat and have the appropriate weapon skills available. It's actually kind of baffling why this isn't the default setting, and even more baffling that this is only possibly via editing a config file.
