F..king GREAT game!

Haven't had so much fun playing a game since HOMM 4 many MANY years ago. Got Vaporum just over a month ago and been playing it daily ever since, every time trying different rig+circuits combos. I played it on hard mode the 1st time, but after that I went to brutal, and it's the only difficulty I play now, and even on this difficulty it's easy-peasy (is this the expression?) for me, albeit still incredibly fun.

Wanted to post this feedback on steam first but the idiots at steam obligate me to spend $5 in order to be allowed to make comments (unbelievable!)... anyway, here I am WANTING to give this feedback cause I like this game a freakin LOT.

Also, something else I'd like to mention is that, despite of the comments I've read on steam the absolute easiest way to play and finish the game (at least with the combos I've tried) is to go full mage (thauma rig + spell circuits + armor + blocking). Just finished playing this combo a minute ago and I can't believe how easy it was to go through the entire game. I think I ended the game in 4 hours or so, and beat Lora in under 10 minutes, whereas with combat rig and all nonsense like dual wielding it took me twice the amount of time, maybe more.

Also, oddly enough, the hardest for me was with the heavy rig + defensive circuits. Sure, I didn't die at all, but I couldn't kill that easy either. Only God knows how I cursed my build at level 8 battle with the giant roaches. I would hit them 3-4 times for a total of 200+ damage and they would heal back within seconds. Without exaggeration I will say that I have re-loaded that battle like 30-40 times over the course of 3, maybe 4 hours, until I couldn't take it anymore and replaced all defensive stuff with offensive items only, and could finally move on to the next step. It was excruciating experience, but I've learned not to go fully defensive in this game... like EVER lol

Also, about Lora... I saw on steam that there's many opinions about how hard or easy it is to beat her, so I'll give my experience with the final boss. Here it is: I only play on brutal difficulty and no matter my build the easiest to beat her was with mage (thauma rig + 4 offensive gadgets + all points invested into spells). The hardest? Obviously with defensive build, cause it takes a lot of time to kill her, not because she's too dangerous or anything but because of the little damage I do to her. Speaking of which... the most dangerous thing in the battle against Lora are her minions. In phase 3 I have no problem killing her no matter the build I have, but phases 1 and 2 (phase 2 more precisely) is f..king annoying most of the time because you must hit her to progress but you can't hit her easily because her minions block you/her from your damage. To me, that is annoying as hell, but only if I go defensive builds. But overall, even on brutal difficulty Lora is easy to kill once you've mastered the game. especially if you use spells (gadgets).

Last, but not least (to the devs): don't tell me that you guys didn't inspire from the AvP maps / atmosphere when you created Vaporum (Fumium Experiment level for example, resembles A LOT to AvP maps) cause I won't believe you :p ...

Anyway... that's all I wanted to say. Time for me to go back and re-play the game with a different combo I've been having in mind since yesterday (heavy rig + dual wielding + riffles + armor + blocking)

PS: f...king GREAT game. Gonna play it until Vaporum 2 comes on :D

Hey monere!

Wow, what a thorough feedback! So you say the game is too easy now, right? You gave me an idea to add a 6th difficulty level, something that will thoroughly challenge you. :) How about that?

Yeah, if you go full defense, you really lack the damage to kill enemies quickly. On the other hand, when you get to the rank 5 circuit skills, you can facetank almost anything, you don't have to run around enemies much, thus you spend more time attacking, which, to an extent, compensates for it. Offensive gadgets excel at fighting bunch of mobs while weapon builds are good against singular enemies. Although the Zapper is very powerful against single targets too. Gadgets against the boss are also safe in that you can stay diagonal most of the time.

I also find the second phase the most difficult. Especially when you don't deal with the minions quickly, they can overwhelm you.

Heh, no, we really didn't draw inspiration from AVP, although yeah, the Fumium Experiment zone really resembles that. :)

Did you try the Assault Rig yet? What interesting builds did you come up with? Next build I wanna try:
- Assault Rig: More damage the closer to death.
- Armorer: Lots of health, thus staying low is not that risky.
- Marauder Chestpiece: Adds damage to every weapon attack based on your max health.
- Dual-wield daggers: Very fast attack speed which takes advantage of the Marauder bonus damage.
- Shredder dagger: Attacks stack up to deal lots of damage for a dagger.

Thank you!

Hi Jase,

yeah, it's too easy even on brutal once you get the hang of it (square dancing + some points in weapons). I cruise through the entire game within a few hours, regardless of the build :)

And no, I haven't tried the assault rig cause I haven't updated the game yet. Soon, though...

Also, I'd like to address a few other things that I've found weird/useless about the game.

1) the umbrella gadget:.. I have found NO use of this item EVER, no matter the difficulty, rig+circuits builds, or the level. One of the keys to victory in Vaporum is mastering the square dancing, but the umbrella field gadgets only works if you stand still in your little corner and attack from there. Well, I do remember having used the gadget once in level 7 when I was trying to defeat the spiders in the pipes room. I found a 2 way spot, I blocked one way with a decoy, and i used the umbrella gadget while facing the other way and continually bashing the spiders, but even so, I used the gadget not because I needed but to have the impression that I'm making full use of my inventory :)

So, unless I'm missing something I think you should really remove that item.

2) the fumium rod... again I have never been in a situation (regardless of build) in which I needed the fumium rod to gain extra experience. Given the fact that even on brutal I cruise through the entire game without problems I see no point in gaining extra fumium through that blade. One experience level more or less within the next few levels won't make any difference, especially since the game is meant to abuse the F5-F9 system. Or, if you really want to keep the fumium sword in the game at least add HPs bars/numbers to the creeps, so we can see when they need 1-2 more hits and immediately switch to the fumium blade for that extra experience. Otherwise, I really see no point in ever using that item. I think it's one of the most useless items you find behind a fumium door :D

3) the rifles circuit tree.... more specifically, the 5th level where you get to hit all enemies in a line. Again, I see no point in ever using that skill (does anybody ever picks that anyway??), because creeps rarely line up behind each other so you can hit them all with the rifle. Well, to be honest, this skill is not as big of a deal as the fumium rod, and umbrella field generator gadget, but I still wanted to mention it :)

Other than these... I hate the green roaches (I f..king hate them with all of my passion, and I wouldn't mind being removed from the game :D)... Also, I don't know why but I always feel sorry for killing those big robots... I like them and I hate killing them LOL

Cheers!

Ugh, sorry for the double reply but I forgot to address your second part of the message.

So, about the interesting builds... I don't think there are any interesting builds, because all builds have their fun part, even the tanky builds (heavy rig + armor + blocking). Yeah, I know that this build gave me the most troubles when I fought the giant roaches but except for that singular battle I enjoyed playing this build (I always prefer defense over attack in any online gaming, so that build was fun for me). So again, there are no interesting builds in my opinion, there are just things you wanna try, and things you like more than others. Personally, I always prefer mages in online games (gadgets in Vaporum terminology), but there are times when I get bored of playing mage (by they way, gadgeteer is the absolute easiest, and fastest way to complete the game, no matter the difficulty.).

Also, I'm not a big fan of dual wielding. I can't really say why, I just never liked dual wielding in general, not just in Vaporum, I guess it's a matter of preferences :) ... That being said, I did try DW once, especially for the earthsplitter + shield combo, and it - obviously - kicked ass. AOE damage always kicks ass :)

The marauder chestpiece... not sure if you're referring to the armor found in level 6 secret chest that gives +12% to all weapon damage, but if that's what you mean then yes, I use that tunic extensively. Except for when I play as gadgeteer and have to use a tunic that gives toughness, in all other circumstances I can't even think about dropping that tunic. It is THAT good of an item :) ... The only time I get rid of it is when I find the better tunics in level 10 super secret chest.

Daggers... meh, not a fan of them, probably because swords give more damage per hit than daggers. I somehow overlook the importance of attack speed that daggers come with, which might give more damage than swords overall, but... I'll try the daggers too at some point in time, just like I will try dual wielding pistols after I finish my current build (blunt weapons + armor + blocking on combat rig). I'm playing this build right now specifically for using maces in the final battle and see how they perform, which brings me to this question....

Care to explain what the red mace does exactly? I'm referring to the mace you find in Lora's secret chest in level 11. I mean, I know what it does, I just don't understand this piece of description: "does a lot of damage to the enemies" (if by "a lot of damage" you mean the 75 damage that the mace deals, then yeah that's the highest damage a mace does in Vaporum, but if you're meaning something else please explain. Also, about the resistance aspect of it: it says that it increases resistances, but to what extent, and for how long? Because, depending on the numbers I might want to pick emergency braces over the hps + resistance perk when I upgrade the armor circuit to level 5... IF the mace can easily replace that skill, that is....

So yeah, please explain how that red-headed mace works, cause I'm confused.

Whew! This was a long one :)

Yeah, the text says that the mace does a lot more damage than is usual for maces, but that comes at a cost.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The red mace (Kinetic Coil) does not grant you any resistance.

All these things you list are pretty situational. So yes, I agree that they don't always come in handy. Well, lesson learned :)

Hi,

regardless the kinetic coil (yeah, that was the item I was referring at)... it says there in its description this phrase:

"This self-inflicted damage can be mitigated by increasing your resistance".

What I understand from this phrase is that the more damage I deal to myself (by missing attacks on enemy units) the higher my resistances to the various types of damage increases. Is that correct?

So, if that is correct, can you explain how much this resistance increases and for how long the increased resistance lasts? Not that understanding this bit will make the difference between winning or losing, because the game is too easy anyway after getting used to it, but... I want to know :)

Addressing the second part of this topic.... I mean that, if this mace does such a good job at protecting against spell damage we can just use its specialty instead of putting the 5th point in "fumium armature" (that's what armor level 5's perk is called). Could we not do this?

Oh I see. No, it means that your resistance mitigates the damage that the missed attacks deal to yourself. Kinetic Coil itself does not increase your resistance. So if your resistance is 0%, you will take 20 damage from missed attacks. When it's 50%, you will only take 10.

Ah-ha! Now it makes sense. Thanks :)

Edit: my confusion came from the fact that I thought (without checking a dictionary first) that "mitigate" means to add, instead of diminishing / toning down

Cheers!
